oh, how i love the first month of fall🍂 I definitely feel like this month went by in a blink! little reading, little movie watching but enjoying museum excursions and time with friends & family 💌

✍🏼: what was your favorite September read?📖 by @nessas_reads

- ‘Yesteryear’ by Caro Claire Burke was very… interesting. I know this book had a lot of buzz and seemed to be the book of this summer or maybe even year? I’ve seen so many articles, press, reviews and feed posts regarding this. Whenever a book is highly publicized I try to avoid it for a while because I want to form my opinion on it. So here’s my honest opinion:

I didn’t really like it and it didn’t really wow me. I guess my expectations were a little jaded because I just saw so much about it (but still managed to avoid spoilers🤞🏼) and so I thought the plot twists were going to be this time-bending alternative life and it was just ohhhh she’s crazy… okay😂

The concept was interesting but felt as if it was a cop out instead of exploring deeper rooted issues and complexity of the characters. Using the influencer being cancelled storyline just felt so generic and something we kind of see all the time in real life?

Natalie was essentially lied to her whole life by her mother, who pretended to be a righteous woman and instilled these religious sanctimonious beliefs upon her children and then just drops them all at the end. So the topic of nature vs nurture comes up: were any of these characters innately good or bad? or were they just a product of their environment? I think that was ignored altogether and instead the story takes the easier route of lets just say they’re extremists, they’re a political dynasty in the making, without making us as readers have to think any deeper about these characters besides “wow they’re so unlikeable or not nice!” I would’ve liked to see more depth about the internalized hated, possible undiagnosed mental illness or even just a more critical look on family trauma/religious trauma.

If you’ve read this one, let me know your thoughts!💭 by @nessas_reads

looking forward to starting east of eden before the adaptation comes out. dark, gothic, romantic novels and fall season just pair perfectly 🥀

what was your favorite memory this summer? 🫶🏻

‘Strangers’ by Belle Burden was another excellent audio listen 🎧 i truly believe listening to someone speak their story rather than read it, is such a unique experience! Belle shares how she grew up privileged and always thought she had the “perfect” family, marriage and life. During the COVID pandemic, she receives a text from a random number telling her that her husband is cheating on her. Her husband then decides to leave their family/marriage with no specific reason or explanation as to why.

She is left grappling with doubt, insecurity and shock at how the person who’s been in her life for over 20+ years is now a stranger. the questions i found to follow as i listened to this one were: is closure necessary? can someone emotionally find peace without it?

‘My Husband’ by Maud Ventura was offbeat, funny and pretty much insane! A woman who is obsessed with her husband details every single action, movement and choice of words he uses, believing they hold some deeper meaning about her or their relationship.

with some plot twists and background context about their relationship, we end up seeing the full picture as readers but i did find the ending to be a bit lackluster. i guess what i thought to myself was “yeah a man making a woman feel crazy, pretending not to know what he’s doing, but he knows exactly what he’s doing, that checks” 🤷🏻‍♀️😂

finalllly got around to watching this show and it did not disappoint! so cool to see a show primarily filmed around LA and the music each episode 🤌🏼 i’ve always heard good things about it and if you like shows about figuring out your life, growing up, dating, friendships, this is a good one 💌 s/o to @janisjay for being the reminder i needed to watch it! ☺️

materialists has really grown on me! my third rewatch and honestly such a think piece on modern dating..💭
im still not taking the scene with pedro pascal talking about his leg surgery seriously though, sorry its funny😂

summer is always so much fun for me, i thrive in the sunshine but i also loveeee fall so i might be a little too excited to say im ready for my halloween/fall vibes already🙂‍↕️❤️‍🔥

monstrilio i absolutely loved. such a standout novel and the premise was beautiful & tragic˙⋆✮

the caretaker i listened to on audio, and i didn’t enjoy as much🫠 full review to come soon!

okay im sorry but house of dragon lost me a bit at times. i think i just miss the first season so much and nothing matches it for me😭 im still engaged but feel like i want more. season finale was very good imo though!

xmen 97 szn 2 i’ve loved the new character intros and the fight scenes are always so fun to watch. rogue and gambit i love so much, i think the characters that have gotten entire episodes with more emotional backstory is so good!!

lets marry harry, omg someone pls tell me they’ve also watched this and are just like wtf😂 its a hard watch but as a reality dating show im eating it up

odyssey and spiderman are my standout faves obviously🙂‍↕️

when drake said “i just wanna see a boy beg on the pavement” i felt that 🤷🏻‍♀️ by @nessas_reads

just wanted to share my experience at the @am_cinematheque directors village theatre! this theatre is in LA, and will be closed for renovation soon but i was lucky enough to grab tickets to see the odyssey in 70mm here🌟

the art deco vintage look was stunning, and its so unique and has so much charm! they are still having showings of many different films and appearances from directors or people who worked on the films happen from time to time too! highly recommend seeing a movie here for all my fellow movie lovers 🤭🎞️🍿 by @nessas_reads
