An intriguing novel that deals with themes such as loneliness and silence enforced by secrets. A contemporary exploration of the current world. Highlighting the fears many have. It is a tender novel full of empathy. Loved it. @lizstroutauthor #thethingsweneversay @vikingbooksuk by @nessharbour

September tomorrow. Am I ready for it. Not really. It is always more of a beginning than January with the academic year starting then. A summer of work, writing, graduations, laughter, family and eclipses. It all speeds up with the return of students. Am hoping it’s a better autumn than last year. I have lots of exciting plans coming up with some great people. It’s going to be an interesting year. Bring it on! by @nessharbour

Four years ago I had another wonderful book launch at @pgwellsbookshop .Always such special days! #Safe was the sequel to Flight. I love both stories as they tell the adventures of Kizzy and Jakob and the #horses as they try to survive during #ww2 This year to my delight Safe became award winning. My grandson is starting a new school this week and they have to take a book in. He’s taking Flight so I can be with him. 🥰 Books can be so powerful. They can create empathy and provide a place to escape to. I am still very proud of my books. by @nessharbour

I can't quite believe it's ten years since I first became a published author with my debut, 'Black Powder'.

I've been on many adventures since then both in fact and fiction, including being lucky enough to have five more books published, to meet thousands of young readers and to make many new and wonderful friends along the way.

I'm often asked on school visits - as I'm sure most children's authors are - which is my favourite book of the ones I've written. I always say that it's a bit like asking your parents or guardians who their favourite child is - impossible to answer! But if I was forced to say, then it would be 'Black Powder', because it was my first, and when I wrote it, publication was just a dream.

With grateful thanks to my editor @kesialupo Barry C. and all @chickenhousebooks for believing in it and helping me to make it the best book it could be; to all the brilliant book-bloggers, booksellers, librarians and teachers who have championed it over the years; to the @histassoc for recognising it with a Young Quills Award; to my MA tutors, @judith_heneghan @nessharbour and friends - writers and non-writers - who have cheered me on, and to my family and most especially my lovely husband, Steve, for believing in me and giving me the space and time to write.

And last but by no means least, to all the young readers who have taken Tom, Cressida and the Falcon to their hearts.

🎆Thank you to you all - it's been an absolute blast! 🎆

Finished #thecorrespondent by Virginia Evans. I was intrigued how plot, setting and fully rounded characters were effectively created through letters alone. A true epistolary novel. I confess I didn’t always liked the main character but as the story unfolds you begin to understand her. The Times says it is warm and funny. I agree with Ann Patchett who said it was subtly told. #readingforpleasure by @nessharbour
