Freedom of expression, online and offline, is a human rights priority of the Netherlands. Free, independent, reliable and pluralist media landscapes and journalists and media workers that can report in safety are crucial for the exercise of this right. This years’ theme is “*Threats Evolve. Impunity Endures”*

Journalists should never be a target, and the perpetrators of crimes against journalists must be prosecuted. Worldwide, we witness high rates of impunity for crimes against journalists.

According to a report by UNESCO, between 2006 and 2024, over 1,700 journalists have been killed around the world, and around 85 percent of the cases did not make it to court.

Impunity must end.

🌊 Ending October with Impact: Beach Clean-Up at Coco Beach

We concluded the month of October with a beach clean-up initiative promoting environmental sustainability, proper waste management, and the protection of marine ecosystems, with the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands as a partner in this initiative.

The activity brought together 50 participants from different backgrounds to take collective action towards a cleaner and healthier environment.

Key results from the clean-up:

148 kg of solid waste collected

93 bags of waste gathered

658 waste items recorded, including plastic straws, plastic bottles, glass bottles, toothbrushes, ice cream wrappers, plastic caps, and other waste materials.

Participants included university students from the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM), MUHAS, and other institutions, alongside organisations such as MBRC and SWI, as well as students from Academic Achievement International School.

Beyond the waste collected, the initiative highlighted the importance of collective responsibility, environmental awareness, and community participation in addressing marine pollution.

At AfriCraft, we believe that every action counts towards cleaner coastlines, healthier marine ecosystems, and a more sustainable future. Together, we continue to promote responsible waste management and inspire communities, especially young people, to become active environmental champions.

Together, let's keep our beaches clean and protect our oceans. 🌍♻️

What an incredible experience meeting the next generation of women leaders in Tanzania! ✨

During our interviews, we had the joy of meeting some incredibly inspiring young women leaders from across Tanzania! From leading initiatives in their universities to creating meaningful change in their communities, these young women reminded us that leadership is already happening, and the future is brighter than ever.

Listening to their stories, learning about the work they do, and seeing the passion they carry for their communities was truly inspiring.

We are beyond excited for this year’s cohort and can’t wait to walk alongside these incredible young women as they learn, grow, and strengthen their leadership journeys.

One thing is certain: the future of Tanzania is in good hands!

Girls are often encouraged to become leaders. But how often are they given the opportunity to experience leadership?

During Girls TakeOver 2026, Angel stepped into the role of Ambassador for a Day at the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Tanzania (@netherlandsintanzania) , gaining firsthand experience of leadership and the Embassy’s work.

“Most people are encouraged to become leaders without being given the experience of actually being one. I’m honoured that I was given this opportunity.” — Angel.

Her experience also introduced her to the Embassy’s work supporting sustainable fish farming in Tanzania, including the Big Fish initiative in Kigamboni, which brings together Tanzanian and Dutch expertise to improve aquaculture practices.

🇹🇿 Happy Nyerere Day!

Today, we celebrate the life and legacy of Mwalimu Julius Nyerere, Tanzania’s founding father. His connection with the Netherlands dates back to 1965, when he visited the Netherlands, marking an important moment in the relationship between our two countries. 🇹🇿🇳🇱

As we honour his legacy, we also celebrate the longstanding friendship between Tanzania and the Netherlands, built over generations.

During the EU–Tanzania Investment & Business Roadshow, the Minister for Planning and Investment Prof. Kitila Mkumbo visited APM Terminals at the Port of Rotterdam, the most modern gateway to Europe. With its global headquarter in The Netherlands, APM Terminals is an independent container terminal operator of the A.P. Moller–Maersk Group.

This visit showcased Dutch strength in port development, logistics and innovation. Port operators such as APM Terminals are a clear example of how EU partners work across borders, combining their expertise and strengths to support business growth and economic opportunity. Such partnerships can be highly significant in connecting Tanzania to key trade routes.
