Grief is like the immense waves of the ocean.

When we think that they’re gone forever, the tide rises and comes rushing back to engulf us completely, submerging us, sometimes in pain, sometimes in something lighter, like a beautiful memory.

Losing a loved one is hard. It’s part of life. We hope to never experience it, but we will, and we will never be truly ready for it. Sometimes when the wave comes back, it’s a happy memory, a funny anecdote, or just simply a beautiful dream with our loved one. Other times can be something more sour, words we said, things we did that perhaps will cause regret. There is beauty in how we process pain. The way that feeling incapacitates me, I like to equate with the intensity of the love I felt. Grief has materialized in me in a constant state of nostalgia. Always focusing on the most beautiful things my dad did for me, and that has been such a great bridge to closure.

He has visited in my dreams thrice.

I’d like to think of it as his essence guarding and protecting me from the beyond. Loving and venerating our ancestors has been something I’ve always admired from Eastern cultures. It makes sense to venerate the people that made our lives possible. More so than a random patriarchal religious system pushed down our throats.

To all our ancestors that had shaped our present, I send my most sincere gratitude and love. by @networkmeharder
