TBI can affect many areas of everyday functioning, including:
• Reduced focus and attention
• Language and word-finding difficulties
• Spatial misperception
• Short-term and long-term memory challenges
• Slurred or unclear speech
• Difficulty completing simple tasks or staying oriented to reality

Every brain injury is different. That’s why we always look at prior level of function and complete comprehensive evaluations to understand how life has changed—and how to best support recovery.

Awareness leads to understanding. Understanding leads to better care. 💙

Today at the Chapman Summit on Disability — uniting self-advocates, policy leaders, service providers, educators, and community members to drive inclusion and equity for people with disabilities. As a private practice owner and working with multiple school districts across Orange County being apart of their faculty , I’m especially excited to join forces with one of my amazing colleagues… and we can’t wait to announce something incredible that’s on the horizon for higher education! 🌟 #InclusionMatters #autism #neurodiversity #DisabilityAdvocacy #Collaboration #PrivatePractice #autismacceptance #neurodivergent #disabilitylaw #advocate #autism #autismspeaks #autismparents by @neurospotoc

“Sofia, you need to talk about what you do because other professionals , providers, and parents need to know who to refer to/go to and your scope of practice”

🔵90% of my job is to evaluate, diagnosis communicative disorders, and provide therapy . The 10% that’s left is to educate other professionals not just health care providers, parents, caregivers about what I do.

The questions I get asked daily & the topics I’ll start to talk about.

🔵Do you work with only kids ?
Youngest 19 months - oldest patient 98 yrs old

🔵So you only work with kids with Autism?
No, SLPS work with a range of different people and in different settings (schools, private practice, home health, hospitals) Huge misconception of what our patient population is. Every SLP has a niche as well or a specialty just depends.

🔵My teen has a substance abuse issues and has suffered from a TBI . He does not understand social cues, lacks socials skills, and has deficits in inferencing. Can you help?

NeuroSpot collaborates with IOP (intensive outpatient programs). We run pragmatic groups for adolescents & teens with a dual diagnosis.

🔵I just had a baby are they going to be delayed if I teach them a second language?
How do I implement teaching them a second language? What’s best practice?

🔵My client got into a car accident and was with his son who has Autism and is non verbal. What course of action should I take? Can you assess and evaluate?

🔵 Is it bad if my child is on an IEP (Individualized Education Plan)? Does it follow them through college?

🔵Do I need a referall to come see you? Does my pediatrician or provider need to reach out to you? There are waitlists everywhere.

No referral is necessary . I am out of network. I can provide you with a superbill and insurance usually does cover it. by @neurospotoc

☀️ Summer Adventures at Pretend City! School’s out!

Don’t let summer be spent glued to a screen. 🙃

One of our favorite places to encourage communication and social development is Pretend City! Through imaginative play, children naturally practice speech, language, problem-solving, turn-taking, and social interaction skills in a fun and engaging environment.

Whether they’re ordering food at the café, shopping at the market, caring for animals, or working together to solve problems, every experience creates opportunities to build vocabulary, conversation skills, listening, storytelling, and peer connections.

At NeuroSPOT, we love helping families find meaningful ways to support communication beyond the therapy room. Summer is the perfect time to explore, play, and strengthen speech and language skills through real-world experiences.

☀️ Play with purpose.
🗣️ Build communication.
🤝 Strengthen social connections.
🌊 Create lasting memories.

SPOTLIGHT SUNDAY with this Bilingual Stud

Remy
Age: 1 yr 5 months
💡Remy’s favorite book is Dear Zoo by Rod Campbell. He loves to open the flabs and try to make the sounds of all the animals. He enjoys hearing the animal sounds come from mom or dad because he finds it hysterical.
💡Communication style:
Remy communicates by pointing to anything and everything he wants…which is non ending. He is not yet saying full words just yet. Remy parents want him to be bilingual . He is working on learning Spanish with his grandparents when they are around. He also enjoys reading books with his Dad.

5 ways on how to teach your child another language

👩🏽‍🦱🤷🏼‍♂️One Parent= One Language. The other parent=The other language. Each parent speaks a different language with the child. Parents should speak whatever languages there are most comfortable with the child (e.g. Mom speaks Spanish and Dad is not bilingual so he speaks only English with the child).

👥Both Parents=Both Languages. Each parent speaks both of the languages to the child.

👥👵🏼One language is spoken by both parents at home. The other language is used by the nanny, caregiver, or grandparent.

🏡🚌Formal language learning: The child is exposed to one language at home and then another at school.

✈️Circumstantial bilingualism: The child is exposed to one language and then moves to a new environment and learns the second language.

✨What sounds is your little one working on ? This chart shows what 95 % of children should be at the given age (meaning they should have mastered the sound by this age) .

✨If you feel like your child is struggling with some sounds or have concerns reach out to a speech language pathologist.

💡Bilingualism does NOT cause language delay and has been shown to improve children’s ability to learn new words , identify sounds, and problem solve.

💡All children are capable of learning multiple languages, included those with developmental and learning disabilities

💡As a parent we sometimes compare our children to others. It’s hard not to when you notice a friends 3-year- old babbling off and naming animals and your isn’t.

💡Just remember to be patient and that developmental milestones cover a range of several months. These ranges represent the average age in which a typical child will develop certain abilities.
