Many people can relate to this concept, especially for people who had a concussion in their life and can't seem to find a way to get ahead and find improvements in their life.

What is Survival mode?

Think of being in survival mode, as a way of how the brain and body feels when you can't seem to catch up in life. That there are so many barriers in your life that seems overwhelming and thus making it very difficult and challenging for one to overcome them and find success. It is a feeling where your goals are so far down the road and you either will not risk expending the energy in order to attempt to achieve them or you make the attempt towards it but experience some minor bumps/falls, which causes you to go back to the beginning again. Basically experiencing a downward spiral or cycle for the worse. A 1 step forward - 2 steps back feeling towards your goals.

Train your brain and expose yourself to the variety sensory signals in your environment.

With small amounts of exposure to these sensory signals by walking barefoot outside, you can teach your brain that these signals are not harmful/painful to the body.

Try it for 5-10 minutes each day this week. Your body and your nervous system will appreciate this novel experience. 🧠

Stop aggressively stretching your tight back. Do this instead. 👇

If you play golf, swing a racket, or just sit at a desk all day, you probably deal with a tight mid-back. When one side feels "stuck," our first instinct is to stretch the life out of it.

But here is the neurological truth: Tension is a safety mechanism. Your brain makes your back tight because it doesn't feel safe letting your spine rotate.

Instead of stretching, I used Thoracic A/P Glides and Circles (what I'm doing in the middle of this video). This feeds clear, safe movement data directly into the nervous system. Once the brain realizes the spine is safe to move, it instantly releases the "parking brake" on your muscles.

The result? Massive, instant improvements in my rotational range—without forcing it. ⛳️ Whether you are trying to add power to your golf swing or just want to wake up without a stiff back, you have to train the nervous system first.

Ready to move better, swing smoother, and unlock your mobility?

📍 I am taking new clients for in-person treatments in Courtenay (inside SoulStar Metaphysics) and online.

Meet Lily. 🐴❤️

This sweet rescue horse has been through a lot. When my friend first rescued her, she was malnourished and covered in itchy, painful sores. This constant physical irritation changed her behavior completely—she was incredibly anxious, terrified of being touched, and constantly on edge.

I was honored to treat her using a neurological technique called P-DTR.

How does it work?

Our nervous system is like an internal alarm system. For Lily, years of trauma meant her body received way too many stress signals. Eventually, her nervous system hit a threshold—it got overwhelmed and stuck in "high alert" mode. Her alarm system was stuck in the ON position!

My treatment works like a gentle reset button. By finding the "glitching" nerve signals and carefully rewiring them, it tells the brain: "You are safe now, turn the alarms off."

After just two treatments, Lily's transformation is beautiful. With her nervous system calmed down, she loves getting her pets and can finally relax!

The most remarkable part? How quickly the nervous system heals.

This doesn't just apply to horses. Whether you are an animal or a person dealing with emotional trauma, physical trauma, or chronic pain, your nervous system reacts the exact same way. When overloaded, pain and anxiety become chronic. By gently rewiring those stuck signals, we can achieve incredibly fast results, bringing your body and mind back to a calm, pain-free state.

I am so thankful I got to help Lily heal, and I look forward to helping many more find their reset!

📍 Ready to calm your own nervous system?

I offer Neuro-Performance treatments here in the Comox Valley and online worldwide.

Speed is useless if you don't have brakes. 🛑⚡

A lot of athletes come into the clinic wanting to run faster, jump higher, or just get back to their sport without chronic joint pain. But here is the neurological truth: your brain acts like a governor on an engine. If your nervous system doesn't trust your ability to rapidly decelerate, plant, and change direction, it will limit your speed and power to keep you "safe."

In this drill, I'm working on start-to-stop sprints, T-step deceleration, and multi-directional agility.

Why this matters for YOU:

🧠 Training rapid stops builds immense tissue tolerance.

🧠 It forces your brain to upgrade your spatial awareness.

🧠 Better deceleration mechanics mean less wear-and-tear on your knees, ankles, and lower back.

Whether you are recovering from a concussion, dealing with chronic pain, or just want to dominate your sport, your nervous system needs this kind of stimulus.

Your balance shouldn't vanish when you close your eyes. 🙈❌

Most people think balance is just about 'strong ankles' or 'core stability.' But your brain uses three main inputs to keep you upright:

1️⃣ Vision (What you see)

2️⃣ Vestibular System (Your inner ear motion sensors)

3️⃣ Proprioception (Joint sensors in your neck, spine, and feet)

When you stand in a narrow tandem stance, turn your head, and close your eyes, you strip away vision and force your inner ear and neck sensors to do ALL the heavy lifting.

In my baseline test, my brain couldn't process the input fast enough—resulting in a loss of balance in just 2 seconds!

The Neuro Fix:

I trained my nervous system using Head Saccades. Rapidly driving head movements between targets—both horizontally and diagonally (Up/Left to Down/Right)—forces the vestibular system and neck mechanoreceptors to communicate at high speed with the brainstem and cerebellum.

💥 The Result: Re-testing with eyes closed went from shaky and unstable to rock-solid in under a minute!

Your shoulder mobility might be a brain game. 🧠⬇️

When one side of your body feels tighter, slower, or less coordinated, we often blame the joint or muscle. But movement is created in the nervous system—specifically the cerebellum, which acts as your body's motor control center.

In this clip, my left cerebellum was sending a slightly "fuzzy" map, resulting in slower left-arm coordination and limited shoulder range of motion.

The 3-Step Neuro Upgrade:

1️⃣ Thoracic Glides: Stimulates spinal mechanoreceptors to give the brain better joint awareness.

2️⃣ Left Spinal Isometrics: Activates postural reflexes and deep stabilizing muscles.

3️⃣ Eye Circles: Uses visual tracking to directly stimulate cerebellar pathways controlling motor precision.

💥 The Result: Faster coordination, zero shoulder restriction, and smoother overall movement.

Why I use breathwork to fix a stiff back. 🫁🔄

Body:

Let’s be real—if your golf swing feels tight, or you just can’t rotate your torso without your lower back screaming, static stretching usually doesn't fix it.

In this video, I tested my baseline torso rotation and my left side was feeling super restricted. Instead of forcing it or pulling on cold muscles, I went straight to the nervous system.

Here is the crazy part: I used Right-Sided Stair Step Breathing to fix my rotation. With the help of my @flexvit.band to gain more proprioceptive input.

When you do this specific breathing pattern, you stimulate a part of your brainstem called the Pons. The Pons is literally the control center for your body's extensor tone (your ability to open up, extend, and rotate).

By activating the Pons, my brain essentially sent a safety signal to my muscles, telling them it was okay to let go.

WHat is remarkable about it is that it lead to an Instant increase in my rotational range of motion and strength. No forced stretching, no foam rolling. Just using neurology to unlock the body.

If you are dealing with a stiff back, chronic pain, or just want to swing a club better this weekend, we need to look at your software, not just your hardware.

Stop static stretching before you train. Do this instead. ?

Let's be real—if your warm-up just consists of holding a hamstring stretch for 30 seconds and hitting the field, you are leaving athletic performance on the table. In fact, you might actually be down-regulating your power.

Before we move fast, we need to show the brain that our joints are safe.

In this video, I tested my baseline mobility (forward bend, torso rotation, and back extension). It felt pretty stiff.

Then, I did a total body joint mobility sequence using my @flexvit.band. I always work systematically—starting at the ankles and moving all the way up to the neck and jaw. (If you think your jaw doesn't affect your athletic performance, we need to talk! 🧠).

What is the result? Immediate improvement in my range of motion. No forced stretching, no pain. Just waking up the nervous system and lubricating the joints. When your brain feels safe in a range of motion, it lets you access your full power and flexibility.

Next time you hit the field or the gym, try moving your joints through their full range instead of just pulling on cold muscles.

Want to learn how to warm up like a pro and bulletproof your joints?

Every habit needs a place to live. 🗓️

If your goal is to become more fit, build resilient strength, or finally feel as agile as your kids, hoping for it isn't enough. You have to build the neurological pathways for those outcomes, and the very first step is giving that new habit an address in your calendar.

We don't just "find" time to change our bodies; we make it.

If you want to build the habit of a calm, resilient, and pain-free body, give it a place to live this spring. My "Regulating Your Nervous System" 6-class series kicks off on Wednesday, May 6th.

Will I see your name on the roster?

Welcome to the new Neuro Training Performance space! 🧠

I am so incredibly excited to open the doors to my new treatment room!
If you are new here, my name is Mackenzie and I am a Neuro Performance Coach. I help people overcome chronic pain, concussions, and persistent injuries by treating the nervous system directly.

Your nervous system is incredibly resilient—it just needs the right input to train, adapt, and overcome past trauma and injury.

Think of it like this: If your body is a computer, most therapies try to fix the hardware (your muscles and joints). I use a technique called P-DTR to debug your body's software (the signals traveling from your brain to your body). When we fix the signal, the pain turns off, and your mobility returns. 📉🔓

This new space was designed to be a calm, safe environment for your nervous system to down-regulate and heal.

📅 AVAILABILITY:
I am now taking in-person bookings in this space every Wednesday and Friday!

📍 LOCATION: The House of Now - 536 Fifth Street Courtenay, BC

Are you ready to stop chasing symptoms and get to the root cause of your pain?

🧠 Why your "normal" MRI doesn't explain your concussion symptoms.

If you recently suffered a concussion, brain injury, or whiplash, and you're feeling completely lost... this is for you.

It is incredibly isolating to be told you "look fine" just because your X-ray or MRI came back clear. But those imaging tools are designed to look for structural damage (broken bones, bleeding). They check your body's hardware.

Concussions don't break the hardware. They scramble the software. 💻⚡️

A concussion is an invisible disruption in how your brain communicates with your eyes, your inner ear, and your body. It creates a neurological "lag." And you simply cannot see a software lag on an X-ray.

If you are stuck in a dark room waiting for symptoms to magically disappear, you don't have to navigate this alone. Active rehabilitation works by testing those signals and debugging the system so your brain feels safe again.

My name is Mackenzie and I am a Neuro Performance Coach. I help clients (ages 20-75) resolve concussions and chronic pain by rewiring their nervous system.
