A celebration of an underground movement of love, this film tells the unique story of the multi-dimensional Canadian artist collective known as “The House of Venus”. From their humble beginnings throwing DIY theme parties and fashion shows, to their journey of creating world-renowned queer culture and community, we follow the members as they prepare for the 25th instalment of their performance and wearable art festival “Wiggle”.

Wiggle is an annual Wearable Art & Performance Festival celebrating the avant-garde, drag & of course the Wig!

This will be a reunion of great proportions with the return of the Venus Family for a magical moment in time!

We are deeply saddened to hear that #jeffreymcneilseymour @speqw has left us. He was a magical human who touched many and was a powerful community leader who will be greatly missed. Jeffrey was an ongoing collaborator with Never Apart over the years and his legacy will live on. We send love and condolences to everyone who loved him. Rising

50 Years and going strong in the fight for equality

2019 was a very significant celebration for LGBTQ+ rights internationally with the 50 year anniversary of Stonewall and in Canada the the 50th anniversary of the Criminal Law Amendment Act (also known as Bill C-150) Many will argue that these events are not the origins of the Queer rights movement as many strides were made prior to 1969 and the Stonewall riot but this is defiantly an anniversary worth celebrating when the world finally took note and the fight for equality began on a global level.

Around the planet events took place commemorating this silver anniversary and here in Montreal at Centre Never Apart we programmed our Summer exhibitions to coincide with this monumental occasion.

This film documents the important work we showcased in our galleries and also follows folks in Toronto, Vancouver and New York city where World Pride and Stonewall 50 parades, festivities and protests took place.

We hear from different artists here in North America on their perspectives of the Queer movement and how these events from 50 years ago have influenced their works and what has to happen to ensure the fight for equality continues.

We get a German perspective of the movement with the Queer as German Folk Exhibition produced by The Goethe Institute which happened across the planet in major cities and was influenced by the event thats took place at Stonewall. Check out @ageofunion Earth Centre’s latest immersive permanent exhibition the #lavacave by @audemaeva 🌋 You can visit during their open house events: May 20th, June 17th, July 15th and August 19th between 1-6pm. Aude Guivarc’h

“Lava Cave” is a multi-sensory immersive installation designed to transport visitors to the heart of the earth, evoking the sensations of being inside a magmatic womb where shearing forces and tectonic pressure are constantly at work. The installation invites visitors to explore the space through all their senses and to contemplate the profound physical manifestation of the earth's inner workings.

The room is meant to be an allegory for the womb of Mother Earth, where the raw power and energy of creation are born. The installation, immersive by nature, is a dark sculptural room emphasizing more on auditory and tactile sensations than visual elements. 📸 @carbsnproteins taken in Age of Union by @neverapartmtl

Celebrate Earth Day with us on April 22 from 6-10 p.m. at the Earth Centre to explore our exciting new installations and conservation artwork. 🌎

Don’t miss the opening remarks from our founder, @daxdasilva and featured artist Damian Siqueiros at 7 p.m., including a special Land Acknowledgement by Adrian Stimson.

We’re excited to unveil our newest season of environmental art exhibitions at the Age of Union Earth Centre.

Experience the wonder of “Terrarium” by @damiansiqueirosphoto and a cast of multidisciplinary collaborators, and discover “1885” by Edward Poitras, curated by and with a response piece by Indigenous Curator @adrian_stimson We will also be debuting a new permanent immersive installation called “Lava Cave” by Aude Guivarc’h. Learn more about Age of Union’s impact through our exhibition of the ten conservation projects we support in collaboration with our international partners, and catch a screening of our documentary CAUGHT in the theatre room to see the film that inspired change.
