Moving Image, Valences of Enclosure

16- 26 Oct 2026
Opening & Public Talk 16 Oct 6 pm
Eduardo Castillo-Vinuesa & Benj Gerdes @castillo_vinuesa @benjgerdes
Curated by Carmen Lael Hines @carmen_lael_hines

This exhibition brings together excerpts from two moving-image-based research projects: Rainmakers (2026–ongoing) and Ghost Platform (2022–ongoing). Rainmakers investigates weather-based control operations and their geopolitical implications in East Asia. Following a vein of logistical critique, Ghost Platform examines the invisibilization of human labour in cargo logistics and data infrastructure through custom software enabling secure collaboration between activist groups across Spain, Sweden, Lebanon, Germany, Norway, Jordan, and Italy. Through moving image media, both projects visibilize and challenge valences of enclosure, or, the multiple layers of capture.

SONIC GROUNDS
site specific sound performance

Sunday, October 25, 2026 | Edition 4

With performances by
Natasha Moreno @moreno_colors
ora et labora oraetlabora
Alexander Yannilos @mother.drum
Curated by Lorenz Vak @aaron.vak

SONIC GROUNDS is an experimental music format blending site-specific concerts and studio visits. Music is approached as a process and consciously relates sound to architecture.

Edition 4, curated by Lorenz Vak, explores the relationship between sound, space and perception. Taking place in the former Ö1 studios of Funkhaus Wien, the event creates a decentralised concert setting that invites the audience to actively explore the space. Natasha Moreno with her project POSTRAVE and ora et labora together with drummer Alexander Yannilos present two distinct musical positions, accompanied by live visuals.

Program
5.30 - 6.30 pm studio tours (free entry, no ticket needed)
7 - 9.00 concerts (presale link in bio)

As in Turning
Djellza Azemi, Danae Io, Minh Phương Nguyễn

Opening Thursday, 8 October, 6–10 pm
Opening hours 9-23 October, 4-6 pm & by appointment
Former director’s room, Funkhaus Vienna, 3rd floor
Argentinierstraße 30B, 1040 Vienna

Turning becomes part of a reflection, as if to challenge space, to soften its angles. The turning of a head, the flipping of an image, a wheel seemingly slowing down as it speeds up. To work with the possibility of this movement is to unsettle and swirl up dust, to give things time to accumulate around one another, to hold the appearance of a form with a blurred contour open a little longer.

Three films shot at Funkhaus explore its architectural significance and its role within Vienna’s cultural landscape. Alongside the screenings there will be guided tours every 20 min focusing on the architecture of Funkhaus.

ZWISCHEN NUTZEN
a film portrait on the former ORF Funkhaus Wien
by Hannah Horn, Deepshikha Pegu & Nelia Mayer-Rolshoven, 2024

Taking the former ORF Funkhaus as its point of departure, the film looks at interim use and the tensions it creates: between vacancy and activation, nostalgia and speculation, cultural production and urban development. Who owns the city — and who gets to decide what happens to it?

PERSONAE
 an experimental fashion film
 by Pascal Hein, 2025

A cinematic exploration of fashion, identity and the construction of the self.

I CAN NO LONGER REMEMBER AND NEITHER CAN YOU
by Lucca Lutzky & Juli Bierich, 2025

Taking Ingeborg Bachmann’s radio play Die Zikaden (1955) as its point of departure, the two-channel work moves between sound and memory, translation and gesture, the individual and the collective. Created during a summer residency at Never At Home, the film now returns to the foyer of the Funkhaus — a space shaped by its own sonic history.

This month I'll be travelling to Vienna, where I'll be working with @rhona_muehlebach towards a third iteration of 'Neither Hideous nor Tedious', hosted by @neverathome

'Neither Hideous nor Tedious’ is a collaborative drawing, installation and performance project by Chloë Reid (Johannesburg) and Rhona Mühlebach (Vienna). The partnership is based on a shared interest in using fictional and narrative forms to reflect on moments of dissonance between people, objects and non-human living things. Through various iterations, a rambling story exploring complaint, revenge and blockages (with a mythological undercurrent), is played out through drawing, writing and practices extracted from theatre-making, including prop-making, installation and rehearsal.

This mobility was supported by the Africa-Europe Partnerships for Culture: Sub-Saharan Africa,
Connect & Create programme, funded by the European Union, implemented by the Goethe-
Institut, Expertise France and Institut français.

#EUAfrica #GlobalGateway #AEPC #Africa #Europe #AU #EU #Culture #CreateTheNarrative

Image and video is from a previous iteration of the project with musical composition by the exceptional @williamaikman

The first two iterations of the project were hosted by @niroxfoundation and @no_end_art and supported by @prohelvetia_johannesburg through a co-creation grant. taken in Vienna, Austria by @neverathome

A conversation on how design can contribute to well-being, inclusion, and more caring ways of living.

A conversation exploring the relationship between design, material culture, and care, and how the objects, materials, spaces, and rituals that shape our everyday lives can contribute to well-being, inclusion, and more caring ways of living. The conversation is bringing together perspectives from design, health, research, craft, industry, and media. Rather than a conventional panel, the conversation unfolds over coffee. Coffee is one of our most familiar everyday rituals, a moment to pause, meet, exchange, and connect. During the talk, guests will drink together from “Humain”, an inclusive coffee cup system developed with people living with rheumatoid arthritis, occupational therapists, designers, and craftspeople. The object we are talking about becomes part of the conversation. The cup is held, used, and experienced, opening a discussion about how seemingly ordinary objects can influence autonomy, dignity, inclusion, and well-being.

International Open Call 2027
27 Projects, 27 Destinations

NeverAtHome, in collaboration with the Austrian Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs and the Austrian Cultural Forums, invites artists and creative practitioners based in Austria to develop new work in dialogue with one of 27 destinations worldwide.

Rather than responding to a single overarching theme, each proposal should engage closely with the cultural and social context of the destination for which the artist is applying. Projects may be developed through artistic research, exchange, or collaboration. Applicants select a preferred destination and may indicate a second choice.

Twenty-seven projects will be selected by an independent international jury. The selected projects will be developed and presented at their respective destinations in 2027, culminating in a group exhibition in Vienna in 2028.

Project support:

– EUR 6,700 per selected project, including taxes, covering the artist fee and production and presentation costs
– Travel and accommodation for one international presentation trip covered separately

Artists may submit one application only. Applications are now open and close on November 30, 2026.

Full information on the destinations, jury, application process, and Q&A is available via the link in bio or at:
