Dear Leo,

I grew up surrounded by my bro and his friends, who chanted “Messi” during every match. As a little girl, I didn’t know who you were—I only knew your name.

But growing up, I understood.

I understood the magic in your passes, the way you played, and why they admired you so much. Your matches became festivals for us—one small antenna TV, sleepless nights, paper cut-outs all over the walls, fan fights, heartbreaks, and celebrations. Somewhere along the way, you became a part of my childhood.

I watched your losses. I watched your tears. I watched the heartbreak after those finals and the moments when the world seemed to question you. But I also watched you keep coming back.

And then came the moment we had all waited for.

That night, when Argentina finally lifted the trophy and you lifted it with them, it felt like something much bigger than football. It felt like a childhood dream finally coming true. For those of us who grew up watching you, supporting you, and believing in you, that moment will never be forgotten.

You were never just a footballer. You were the reason we fell in love with the game, stayed up late, celebrated like crazy, and believed that the impossible was possible.

And today, after playing your final match for Argentina, I’m trying to accept that the chapter we grew up watching has come to an end.
