On this day of Truth and Reconciliation I can’t help but wonder if there will be any land acknowledgement in morning announcements in Israeli high schools just as they do in Canada.

I can’t help but wonder what the real numbers of murdered children are. Slide 3 is a photo from 2024…

I think of the tied chains and the generational grief all Indigenous people carry. I wonder not if but when we will fully heal from our shared trauma. 🧡🪶

One year ago!

I can’t begin to express how much this moment has impacted my life.

The night before, I asked my mom what she thought about my plan to raise the Palestinian flag at the ceremony. Something I have always wanted to do. She said if I raised it, she would be proud of me.

The next day after my graduation, my grandparents called from Jordan; they were so happy. My aunts and uncles abroad called me, one of them even called, crying happily for me. When I visited them a month later, my cousins teasingly called me a hero. And my grandmother told me everyday for two weeks straight to always fight back the way I did that night.

During my time at Algonquin College, I directed and produced my own documentary titled “The People United,” which aired on WPBS. It was immediately deemed “controversial” and “political” by my film professors. One of them even cornered me in a classroom for two hours after class, arguing that this isn’t a genocide. I was only 18 years old then; my family in Jerusalem was being (and still is) terrorized by the IOF, and my best friend was (and still is) in Gaza.

I was adjusting the flag to make sure I was holding it correctly when suddenly I was YANKED. He kept yelling, “No!” and the tug of war started. I've literally never seen this man in my life. I was pulled so hard my bracelets fell off my wrist.

Then, a security guard past him started marching towards me. All I could think about was all the people I was holding up! I needed to go now. I shouted, “Let go!” yanked it back and marched to the stage.

This moment perfectly encapsulates my time at Algonquin College. The racism, the fear, the lack of support and the struggles many students and I had to face.

I know an action like this won’t free my country on its own, but it’s one small step towards a free Palestine. And I hope to see that in my lifetime.

full video link in bio// making this short was SO much fun I can’t even explain it. no script, just an idea and a vibe, and all the right people.

we had 48hrs to lockkk in. actors showed up on a moment’s notice. there were so many unknowns but everyone committed and it was exhausting but genuinely some of the most fun I’ve had in a while.

watch the full bts on YouTube (link in bio). everyone was fun to be around, which always makes a huge difference in the final cut and I think it shows.
