POSTS STORIES REELS

“Back to Basics, Outside the Box”, the theme for the 2026 International Mountmakers Forum is an apt description for so much of what the @new.project team does on a daily basis. New Project supports exhibit design, conservation, and curatorial teams at museums, galleries and other cultural institutions to conceive, fabricate, and install full exhibitions. As part of our suite of exhibit fabrication services, we are often asked to develop custom mounts for artifacts and artworks requiring more complex engineering and fabrication approaches.

Our Specialty Fabrication Manager, Sev Gedra and Production Director, Matt Sears will present “Ringbearer: Mounting a Tree Slice at Green-wood Cemetery” during the forum’s morning session on November 4th. The presentation details our team’s approach to the design, fabrication and installation of a mount supporting a 3-foot cross-section of a 220-year-old tree reclaimed from @historicgreenwood as part of our comprehensive exhibition fabrication for the new Green-House at Green-wood Welcome and Education Center.

Hosted by Vincent Avalos, Conservation Mountmaker and Sheila Payaqui, Head of Conservation, both of the Asian Art Museum, San Francisco, the forum is celebrating its 10th anniversary and draws specialty mountmakers from art specialist service firms and cultural institutions around the world. In addition to New Project, presenters include @nationalparkservice, @smithsoniannmai, @paulgettymuseum, @calacademy, @denverartmuseum, @museofico, @mnbaq, @markkhamburg and @statelibrarynsw. Artist Abigail Lucien’s current exhibition, “Blood of the Earth” at the @artinstitutechi explores Haitian and African histories through the use of ironwork as a means of sharing cultural and diasporic legacies.

On display through late January 2027, the contrast between the rawness and delicate nature of the works realized in iron by @abigaillucien are representative of the transmutable nature and multiple forms of iron as it appears within our universe and environments.

@new.project was proud to collaborate with the artist and provide specialty art fabrication support for select work.

As the NYC galleries and art fairs return in full force, a look back to a few of our favorite artist collaborations that we haven’t had a chance to share. Kicking off this series of posts is the beautiful exhibition, Twice Seen, by conceptual artist Chloë Bass.

Our @new.project studio team is proud to have collaborated with @publicinvestigator and contributed our fabrication expertise on select works in the PRETEXTS (THIS IS A FILM) series. The multimedia show, an evocative exploration of identity and intimacy, was Chloë’s first solo commercial exhibition at @alexandergrayassociates.

In honor of @maxmara’s 75th anniversary and in anticipation of what we will see on the Milan runways in September, @new.project is looking back on some projects we delivered for Max Mara at their NYC flagship and pop-ups at @bergdorfs and @saks.

GOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAALLLLL!!!⚽️⚽️

Though we didn’t engineer the dancing robots and don’t have the skills of Messi and Yamal on the pitch, we were pretty excited to have fabricated this custom pedestal showcasing the Jules Rimet trophy at the FIFA Museum in NYC. The historic trophy was awarded to the winning World Cup teams from 1930-1970. See it up close in the immersive “Legacies of Champions” exhibition at 50 Rockefeller Plaza through Sunday, July 19

The breezy climes of the Hudson would be a welcome respite for those experiencing Venice’s heat wave but you can currently experience the work of artist Lee Ufan in both places with concurrent exhibitions at the 61st International Art Exhibition - La Biennale di Venezia (@smac_venice)and Dia Beacon (@diaartfoundation).

The @new.project studio considers it an immense privilege to collaborate with the artist, who recently celebrated his 90th birthday. Spanning more than seven decades, his practice is defined by extraordinary intention and sensitivity, resulting in works that respond with remarkable precision to each site, material, and encounter. by @new.project

Give me Liberty!!

On view through July 10th at @nyugrey and presented by @theberkleycollection, “The Declaration of Independence: Long Trail to Liberty” exhibition delves into the 27 grievances at the core of the Declaration, providing deeper insight into the political, social, and intellectual forces that shaped the American Revolution.

Even if you’re not an antiquarian or historian, having the opportunity to examine one of 26 existing original copies of the Declaration of Independence and rare historical manuscripts, pamphlets, books, and maps up close pulls you into an engaging discourse and offers an opportunity to experience history firsthand.

@new.project provided exhibit fabrication and installation services in support of exhibit designer Roger Westerman, The Berkley Collection, and New York University.

The @new.project team recently fabricated and installed a series of pedestals and platforms for “Matisse: The Pursuit of Harmony.” The salon-like experience, organized and presented by @acquavellagalleries and comprised of 50 paintings, sculpture, and works on paper on loan from private collections, foundations and museums, chronicled the artist’s exploration of color and form across mediums during the early 20th century. Lines wrapped the block of their East 79th Street gallery for the show - their first Matisse-focused exhibit since 1973.

As specialists in fabricating and installing exhibitions for museums, galleries and artists, the New Project team has been privileged to work on significant exhibits showcasing the work of masters like Matisse, Raphael and Van Gogh as well as mid-career and emerging artists. Recognizing that it takes years to plan significant exhibits like “Matisse: The Pursuit of Harmony” and the importance that they hold for the organizing cultural institution, the New Project team supports museum and gallery exhibit design teams and exhibit designers in making the design engineering, fabrication and installation phases as efficient as possible. Go to our bio and email or call us to discuss your upcoming exhibit fabrication needs.

In the blink of an 👁️, May and the first half of June blew by! While the @new.project studio has been using every square inch to deliver exciting builds of all shapes and sizes during that time, a few of our team members were trying to keep up with the seemingly endless array of art, design and museum events that happen outside our walls. Leaving us feeling inspired by the tidal wave of immense global talent that descends upon NYC and nearby cities, we attended art fairs like @friezeofficial and @independent_hq; public art showcases like the “Works in Public” symposium; interiors and furniture design programming at ICFF and NYCxDesign; and checked in with our clients and collaborators from museums and cultural institutions throughout the country in Philadelphia at the American Alliance of Museums Annual Meeting.

A highlight for us was “Works in Public,” a collaboration between @aslnyc and NYC Department of Cultural Affairs’ Kendal Henry, touching on past and future installations and the pivotal role that public art plays locally and globally. The event featured artist @jean.shin in dialogue about her body of work in addition to curators and critics from noted NYC cultural institutions, public agencies and non-profits known for bringing public art to communities throughout NYC: Jean Cooney - Executive Director @creativetime, Kendal Henry - Assistant Commissioner of Public Art @nyculture, Melanie Kress - Senior Curator @publicartfund, Shaun Leonardo - Executive Director @socratespark, and Daniel Kunitz - Editor in Chief @sculpture_magazine.

Another favorite offered prototypes, polished classics and all the interiors and architecture trends. @icff_official brought emerging talents and storied design legends together on the show floor and in panel discussions with industry notables such as @morrisadjmiarchitects, @rockwellgroup, @champalimauddesign, and @ringostudiodesign taking us through their design processes and what we can expect to see in hospitality, commercial and amenity spaces in the upcoming years.

Feeling the Knicks love in the @new.project studio though our team can’t seem to track down any official Knicks blue paint. Supplies seem to be low for some reason. GO KNICKS!
