❤️ Did you know that October is ‘Re-start a Heart’ month? ❤️ This is an annual initiative led by Resuscitation Council UK (RCUK), which aims to increase the number of people surviving out-of-hospital cardiac arrests by improving cardiac arrest awareness and CPR education. ❤️ Each year over 40,000 people have an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest in the UK. Less than 1 in 10 survive. Giving CPR promptly and using a defibrillator can more than double the chances of survival. ❤️ The British Heart Foundation provide a free, 15 minute, interactive, online CPR training course that anyone can access. As well as CPR technique, it also includes training on how to use a defibrillator. ❤️ To find out more and access the training please head to: https://www.bhf.org.uk/how-you-can-help/how-to-save-a-life/how-to-do-cpr/learn-cpr-in-15-minutes @resuscounciluk @the_bhf by @newark_parkrun

Meet our new Event Directors As some of you will have seen from our post yesterday, Simon has now stepped down from the role of Event Director. Thanks for all your hard work Simon, we’re very pleased to hear that you’ll be staying on as part of the team. Fran and Amy have taken over the role and will be working as Co Event Directors. In addition to keeping an eye on the weekly rosters and parkruns, they will be dealing with anything that falls outside of the usual routines; special events, changes in the way we do things, risk assessments, dealing with our landowners Newark and Sherwood District Council and any requests for support from other organisations. All this in addition to looking after the core team; 8 Run Directors and 5 members of the Social Media team. The latter task should be easy as both teams include experienced and keen members. And you’ll still see them both at weekly parkruns where they may be running / walking, volunteering or taking on the role of Run Director. I’ve worked with both Amy and Fran at Newark and Brackenhurst parkrun where they have been well organised, confident, enthusiastic, and demonstrated a good understanding of the role of parkrun in the community. We first met Fran 4 years ago when she was completing her Gold DofE Award. She was keen to have more responsibly and excelled in all the opportunities we gave her and quickly became a member of the core team, regularly taking the role of Run Director. Amy started parkrunning in 2017. As well as helping at Brackenhurst parkrun during their infancy, Amy has taken on the role of Run Director at Newark 5k and Junior parkrun several times and is passionate about the benefits that parkrun can bring to both Junior and Adult participants. Continued in comments. by @newark_parkrun
🧡A HUGE THANK YOU TO SIMON! 🧡 After two fantastic years as our Event Director, Simon will be stepping down from the role at the end of this month. Simon has been an invaluable part of our Newark family, giving so much of his time, energy and dedication to making our event the success it is today. 🏃‍♂️ 🌳 We want to say a massive THANK YOU for all his hard work, commitment and everything he has done for our parkrun community. 👏 But don’t worry… he’s not going anywhere! Luckily for us, Simon will still be a key member of our core team, as an RD we look forward to seeing him continue to be part of our Saturday mornings! Thank you, Simon – you’re a star! 🌟 by @newark_parkrun
