🏆🌃 After winning last year's BGIC, KZ Trinna feels more confident than ever about this year's race; that being said, she also lost a good friend and fellow cup racer in a deadly collision, which has affected her perspective on mandated pilot safety systems. Her iconic reverse-delta boost-glider is outfitted with experimental "flag" stabilizers, which mitigate vortex turbulence while banking and diving. Racers are natural adrenaline-fiends and know the dangers when they follow this path, but to lose even one is a tragedy. All craft have advanced protection, ejection, and recovery systems built-in...meticulous investigations into the surrounding details of the crash continue.

🏆<<@shiptember programming continues.>> Sek's crimson and grey boost-glider suffered from a failing pressure sensor during trials...but with repairs done by his team, he's confident he'll win his third consecutive BOOST-GLIDER INTERSTELLAR CUP. The engineering guidelines for the BGIC change yearly to prevent stagnation and encourage innovative design: this year's challenge requires all entrants to utilize "float-wings"(sometimes called box-wings), which form a continuous wing around the craft's fuselage with a limited number of braces. Engineers must have their designs approved — behind closed doors — months in advance. As soon as this year's race ends, new guidelines will be announced for next year's cup.

Sek's odds of winning are about 1:1 — considering over 30 craft will be competing, he certainly has a performance reputation to live up to. He used to be called "The Weasel" — now they just call him "The Champ."

🗺️ “Voyaging to the Megascorpidon Burrows on Cabaltsys” 👁️🦂 Adaptable electromagnetic hover-craft are loved for their maneuverability and ability to traverse harsh environments — the H9 “Hoverbug” utilizes swinging and raising legs to shift its propulsion points and center of gravity. It also features an iconic, if not totally peculiar, orbit-and-roll cockpit design, enabling the pilot to get either a better viewpoint or swing away from impending doom (like the enormous twin telson of an adult megascorpidon, which can both crush a cockpit and liquefy its unfortunate pilot all in one fluid motion).

The rear of the craft features a large smoothed auxiliary systems pod which typically houses an advanced radar system and an omni-directional atmospheric air intake. If the legs and organically-swept fuselage of the H9 Hoverbug weren’t enough to evoke “bug,” the EM repulsor array on each “foot” of the craft seems to resemble a cluster of freshly lain iridescent eggs. There are few craft in the known galaxy that combine adventure and iconic peculiarity so effortlessly — the Hoverbug is enthusiastically sought after by field researchers and space-racers alike, especially across the cobalt-colored sands of Cabaltsys.

⛈️ [LIFT/R] ---- Anyone from an industrialized planet has seen at least one variation of the Legged Industrial Freight Transport. With a panoramic cockpit, crab legs, and fish-like tail fin, this unforgettable ship (while awkward in appearance) is a mainstay for oversized freight movement. In emergency response capacity, LIFT/R (Rescue) is outfitted with a collection platform (seen here) for retrieving escape pods, vehicles, or personnel; albeit, you may prefer death to the white-knuckle ride to salvation on this air-lift's reinforced cargo platform...particularly if it's the open-air variant. Art imitates nature. Nature destroys art. The process repeats endlessly. Godspeed.

💥😡🤯 "Magenta Fury" An ambush on his pirate clan's fleet drew Bergorra Wumbit into combat — immediately after arriving, his customized NDL light Interceptor took an indirect hit (to the starboard cooling circuit) from a AA turret. Thrown into a furious fit of rage, he zigged, zagged, and dove desperately toward the gunnery deck of the Gracklan command ship, spraying a mist of energized coolant along his path of fatal precision. Overcharging the wing-mounted rotary cannons (which had been freshly outfitted to ambush another pirate clan's freighters in the neighboring sector), B. Wumbit punched explosive plasma-holes into 20 anti-aircraft towers — and he would have taken each and every remaining gun personally if it weren't for his fighter's reactor reaching imminent melt-down.

On open comms, the last message received by the Gracklan warship was "SCREW THIS!" (followed by a distorted, ear-piercing war cry) as Wumbit fired his beloved dark-market anti-matter torpedo — a special ordinance nicknamed "Tiny" that he reserved as a last resort — into the warship's open hangar bay doors. A flash of ultraviolet purple — and then unimaginable blackness — consumed the mid-section of the Gracklan warship. With its center now entirely missing and the fore and aft of the ship drifting loosely apart, the Gracklan support ships and fighter-craft promptly exited the system.

From that day forward, pirates would come to know the legend of "Magenta Fury." 📜🔮 His squadron will always remember him screaming "YOU PUNKS ARE GONNA PAY" before making the dastardly suicide run solo.

🌌Starcruiser Crown Vista passes The Turquoise Eye, a radiant gas giant (one of the "Wonders of Orion") and a legendary interstellar tourist attraction. Utilizing a classic deck-over-fuselage layout, this starship provides an excellent environmental experience for passengers, in addition to on-board amenities, like ultrasonic equilibrium regulation, DCBR (DNA-centric bio-regeneration), and live music. In tourism sectors like this one, armed escort craft are always present, reminding passengers that they are most definitely not susceptible to pirate attacks in the distant cosmos. 🏳️

🤫If you don't know about @shiptember, it's a lot like @inktober, but for nerds who design space ships. I've watched jealously for long enough and am participating in my own way. I had 20 three-word prompts generated (adj, adj, color) to inspire and challenge me. 📝👁️This prompt was "Vicious, Sleepy, Ochre" and here is my attempt to capture those three words! Follow "Mev" and "Barrel" as they unknowingly sneak past a deployment hangar for "Hunters" or A.A.S.C.s (Autonomous Aerial "Surveillance" Craft)! What are they doing? Where did they come from? Are they sneaking out or sneaking in? Maybe someday soon we'll find out!

"The Wreck of The Vega" (Another prompt-driven design/illustration for #Shiptember!) ⚠️ As you can see, this one started with a smaller, interceptor/fighter style design, but ultimately moved away for simplicity's sake.

"Once sleek and vibrant, hauler Vega's painted panels now flake and rust beneath atmospheric heatwaves and torrential downpours. Black box log indicates exchange of munitions before damage to starboard engine, resulting in critical reactor overload. Pilots shut down reactor two before initiating immediate emergency landing, during which the starboard engine broke away from ship's main fuselage. With its boarding ramp left lowered, the crew seems to have made a hasty escape through the surrounding jungle.

Planetary Survey Team Beaver fears what local foliage and fauna may now be inhabiting the interior of this wreck, but after securing the crash site, will gladly lay claim to remaining cargo, returning unauthorized goods to their respective owners when possible."

The music: Ennio Morricone's dramatic compositions perfectly capture the juxtaposition of intense action and sweeping, mysterious landscapes of the wild west. The stars above hold many more Wild Wests yet to be discovered!

❄️ @shiptember no. 2/20 — “Ni2 Nimboa”
“The Ni2 is plentiful as it provides minimalistic capability to a lone pilot, enabling rapid transit from one location to another. The “levitation structures” at its flank revolve around the central control sphere many times per second, generating an expansive electromagnetic sphere that can be near-immediately directed and re-directed as the pilot sees fit. An intergalactic Nimboa or “Nimble Ball” race is held tri-annually, rotating amongst host planets. While unbelievably agile, that agility is also limited and determined by their individual pilot’s reflexes. While the EM levitational structures provide protection from particulate debris, there is neither shielding nor projectile defenses for a craft this small and so uniquely propelled. In addition to its characteristic EM propulsion system, the pilot lays forward, head-first, as though riding one of Earth’s simplistic two-inline-wheeled motorcycles. To see and hear a flock of Ni2’s is to experience crystalline snowflakes whispering shrill musical chords as though via an electric wind.” 🌬️✨

🧩💥 [MASSIVE STUBBORN CHARTREUSE] My first ever @shiptember …with two additional supporting panels. I created 20 of my own prompts with the help of a randomizer. I spent about an hour on the third panel (the initial ship concept), then 30 minutes or so on the first pirate fighter craft, and, finally, a couple of hours on the center panel and connecting dialogue. This was a blast! I’ve always wanted to do it and have been inspired by other artists I follow here. Hope you like my entry. My brain also greatly enjoys the challenge of needing to complete an entry within a singular day. (I’ve also used this as an opportunity to create more graphic, narrative/sequential art.) SIGNING OFF! 👽📻
