Bags (@newmerator) will be opening up the main room for the next Redirect at @goodroombk.

Bags can be all over the map. Equally obsessed with polyrhythms, dark ambient sounds, and minor chords, as he is with soulful vocals, disco, house and symphonic melodies. Bags has lived in many places and travelled the world in search of music that moves him and loves to share what he’s found with others.

Did another little circumnavigation from Dec ‘24 to May ‘25. Hit 11 countries and 5 continents. A few high lights are pictured. Loved being able to meet up with old friends and make new ones. Took a lot of time to journal and be by myself.

San Diego, Tokyo, Hokkaido, Okinawa, Vegas for NYE, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, Taiwan, Vietnam, Ethiopia, Jordan (to see family), Germany and Portugal.

Jordan was amazingly beautiful; food, people and landscapes. Taiwan probably is my new favorite country for food. Going to one of only a few natural salt water hot springs (Zhaori) in the world was a treat.

Meeting Mulatu Astatke in Addis Ababa at a jazz bar, which turned out to be his jazz bar, was a dream come true. He’s one of my favorite composers. He was sick so I didn’t get to see him play but I had seen him in NYC the previous year and he mentioned his upcoming tour.

Also, the Han Son Doong caves in Vietnam are incredible. Apparently less people have been through those caves than have climbed Everest.

☑️Well, NYC, you’re alright. Spent about 18 months in you and I’m still standing (sorta). Huge shout out to all the friends / fam who came out to visit and all the new friends I made who helped make the transition to a big new city a little easier.

To be honest, I found the city to be a little lonely. Easy to make “friends” on a nightly basis but harder to develop meaningful connections. Partly my fault for being gone so often. However, those friendships that did materialize are life-long friendships and I’m very grateful for those.

The music, food, art and people will bring me back, but I think I’m craving something a little different for now. Going to be uncovering more of the map🗺️. HMU if you wanna do a trip somewhere. ✈️🛤️⛴️🚙 taken in New York City by @newmerator

after my extended road trip last year exploring the western states i grew really fond of new mexico and utah. as of last week i finally got a place in taos. not sure if it’s my permanent residence just yet but i think I’ll land somewhere around here or santa fe. looking in to opening a bar or some small local biz. if y’all are in the area drop me a line, ski, hot springs and eat all the green chili stuff. 🤙 taken in Taos, New Mexico by @newmerator

After a lot of positive responses and questions about what I’ve been up to I decided to share more. the theme of 2021 for me was “Break”. i had to put down my dog and one of my best friends of 7 years Chico, left the job that had become part of my identity for nearly a decade, left san francisco where i called my home since 2008, plived out of my truck / camper for 9 months and traveled all the western states, then lost all of the nick nacks and gifts i acquired on the road trip, the cabins i own with @kneath , and the camper that was my home in the Caldor fire, went through a divorce, broke my tibia / fibula in a freak wake boarding accident and now have a metal rod and 8 screws in my tib, but the cherry on top was getting shingles. shingles was actually the biggest blessing because it was a physical manifestion of all the stress i was going through and was forced to confront it. i know others suffered far worse than i did last year, but it doesn’t make my experience any less real for me. i feel fortunate that i was able to lean on my family and friends during this time. special shout out to my mom and aunt jolene who helped me when i broke my leg. losing my independence was challenging but accepting help from others was actually more difficult. if you expect others to let you help then sometimes you gotta let them help you too.

also, realizing that the toxic relationships are a choice has allowed me to shed them from my life and it’s been amazing to feel my confidence come back. the theme for 2022 has been Rebirth. it’s been a challenging but rewarding one. still a lot of work to do in figuring out who i am, what makes me happy and how i’d like to spend the next chapter of my life but i’m actually looking forward to it it. again, very thankful to everyone from my family, friends, partners, strangers i met and hitchhikers i picked up while on my travels. talking with absolute strangers about what i was going through and hearing their stories and perspectives helped to remind me that life is like a ride in an amusement park and we’re all on it together. couldn’t have done it without all of you and hope to connect with y’all in the real world soon. <3. after a year of driving around the country and circumnavigating the globe i feel very grateful to all the people in my life who have been there for me over the years, you know who you are. gunna plug back in to the matrix for a while and see how it feels. by @newmerator
