Please allow me to introduce one of my favorite places in the world! @spicyvillaecolodges_ is nestled in the foothills of northern Thailand, outside Doi Inthanon National Park.

A decade ago, I was able to spend 2 1/2 weeks here as a volunteer and this summer I had the joy of finally returning with a group of travelers.

From the lodge, you can hike to waterfalls, go bamboo rafting, feed and bathe elephants or taking a cooking class from the locals.

Hidden in the heart of Chiang Mai, the stunning Wat Sri Suphan, often called the Silver Temple, is famous for its intricate hand-crafted silverwork covering much of the temple’s exterior.

Built by local artisans from the nearby silversmith district, the temple’s walls tell stories from Buddhist teachings and Thai culture through incredible metalwork. Every detail is crafted with remarkable precision, making it one of Thailand’s most unique temples.

Hidden among the intricate silver carvings are modern superheroes like Iron Man and Captain America. The artists use familiar heroes to connect ancient Buddhist teachings with the modern world—making this one of Thailand’s most unique temples.

The dragons you see guarding many temples across Asia aren’t meant to scare visitors—they’re protectors. Often called Nāgas, these sacred serpent beings symbolize wisdom, strength, good fortune, and protection.

Their position at temple entrances marks the transition from the ordinary world into a sacred space. As you pass between them, you’re symbolically entering a place of reflection, learning, and spiritual growth.

Next time you visit a temple, look closely. These ancient guardians have been watching over sacred places for centuries.

Day 8: This morning we went for a walking tour around the old city of Hoi An, participated in a lantern making workshop, and enjoyed arguably the best Bhan Mi in town for lunch. Our afternoon/evening was spent biking through rice fields, visiting an organic farm, taking a spin in a bamboo boat, cruising down the river and sampling a myriad of local food and drink. taken in Hoi An City Viet Nam by @newpathadventures

Day 6: Today we explored Angkor Wat, Bayon Temple, Ta Prohm. We stopped to have lunch at the New Hope Cambodia restaurant (run by a local NGO).
