Pain free doesn't always mean ready to lift heavy again. Your shoulder might feel fine making a cup of tea. But what about bench press? Shoulder press? CrossFit? Those are very different demands. And if you've ever had to scale your workout while everyone else keeps lifting, you'll know how frustrating that feels. I recently saw someone whose shoulder became painful after increasing their PT sessions. Their neck and traps had started taking on more of the work, leaving them feeling tight and stiff. Some hands on treatment helped them feel freer. But that wasn't the finish line. At New Start Physiotherapy, we focus on building your shoulder's ability to cope with the things you want to get back to. Not just making everyday movements feel better. Because the goal isn't just less pain. It's getting back to training with confidence. Still holding back because of your shoulder? Apparently the online tutorial made it look easier. There is some really useful rehab advice online. The tricky bit is knowing what actually applies to you. Which exercises matter? How much should you do? When should you progress them? And what should change if you are still not getting back to running, lifting or training? Two people can have pain in the same area and still need very different rehab. That is why at NSP we look at what you can manage now, what you are struggling with, and what you want to get back to. Sometimes you do not need more exercises. You need the right ones and a clear plan for how to move them forward. If you have been trying a bit of everything but still feel stuck, get in touch with us to book an initial assessment. And yes, the haircut is AI edited. The curls are safe. by @newstartphysiotherapy

Doing more rehab is not always the answer. You might already have a phone full of exercises. But if those exercises have not changed for weeks, that may be the problem. One person we worked with had Achilles pain that showed up when they had to turn, move faster or pick up the pace. We started with what they could manage. Then we slowly made it harder. More strength. More speed. More movement. Eventually they were back doing faster work and skipping. They did not need more random exercises. They needed a clear plan for how to progress the right ones. If you have done loads of rehab but still cannot get back to what you want to do, get in touch with us at NSP and we can help you work out what is missing. by @newstartphysiotherapy
A phone full of rehab exercises does not always mean you have the right plan. A lot of people come in having done loads. Bands. Stretches. Core work. Shoulder exercises. But when I ask how those exercises have changed over the last 6 weeks, sometimes they have not. That is often the problem. We recently worked with someone with Achilles pain who struggled with twisting and faster movement. Their rehab progressed from improving how they loaded through their big toe, to bringing speed back in, then onto skipping and faster work. They did not need more exercises. They needed the right ones, progressed at the right time. If you have done loads of rehab but still cannot get back to what you want to do, we can help you work out what is missing. by @newstartphysiotherapy
A flare up can make you feel like you are back at square one. You were doing well. You were starting to trust your body again. Then the pain comes back. Straight away, the worry starts. “Have I damaged it again?” Not necessarily. A flare up tells us something has changed. It does not always mean more damage. Sometimes the next step is not more rest. It is finding out what needs rebuilding so you can feel confident loading the area again. If every flare up makes you nervous about training, come and have a chat with us. by @newstartphysiotherapy
A flare up does not always mean you have damaged it again. When pain comes back, it is easy to think you are back at square one. But that is not always the case. We recently worked with someone who had avoided properly loading their abs for years after an old inguinal hernia. They also had recurring back pain. Part of the work was helping them feel confident using that area again, rather than protecting it forever. A flare up is information. It does not automatically mean more damage. If every flare makes you nervous about training, come and have a chat with us. by @newstartphysiotherapy
The sore bit is not always the whole story. After our recent trip up Blencathra and over Sharp Edge, there were some tired legs in the group. There was also some Achilles pain. It would have been easy to just focus on the painful area. But when we looked properly, there were other things around the ankle that needed attention too. That does not mean they caused the pain. It just gave us a clearer picture of what might need rebuilding. If something keeps settling, then flaring again when you get back to training, it may be worth looking at the bigger picture. If this sounds familiar, book an initial assessment and we can take a proper look. by @newstartphysiotherapy
The place that hurts is not always the whole story. After four and a half hours on Blencathra and Sharp Edge, there was some Achilles pain in the group. It would have been easy to only focus on the sore area. But when we looked at how the ankle was moving and how strong the area around it was, we found a few other things worth paying attention to. That does not mean they caused the pain. It just gave us a clearer picture. If something keeps flaring up when you get back to training or activity, sometimes you need to look at the bigger picture. If this sounds familiar, keep an eye out for the follow up post in a couple of days. by @newstartphysiotherapy
