It’s Summer Time - Part 1!

A last minute change of plans allowed us to escape to explore a new area to camp… It had been a while since we toured the Kootenay’s so off we went!
.
First pitstop was Blanket Creek Provincial Park, just South of Revelstoke - a beautiful campground on the shores of Upper Arrow Lake. The park offered lots of easy access to hiking trails that meandered along the perimeter of the campsite. Highlights included stunning views of Sutherland Falls and a fun nature trail along some historic homestead lands.
.
It was hot hot hot… but we did our best to keep the ol’ girl (Nova) and us 2-legged folk - cool under the dense canopy. Plus, with easy access to the lake - I dusted off the board and escaped to the water on a few SUP missions along the shoreline.

Overall - a fantastic getaway to kickstart an awesome trip! Stay tuned for Part 2…

Nipika!
.
If you’ve never heard of Nipika Mountain Resort, make sure to put it on your radar… It’s one of our favourite escapes because it offers everything you need for a perfect wknd getaway!
.
One again, I twisted Val’s arm to come explore this amazing playground, swat a few mosquitoes, and help for moral support as I jumped into the Nipika Trail Race - a beautiful 25km that takes you on the ‘best of’ Nipika’s singletrack trails!
.
As sponsor of the event - it’s a perfect combo of ‘Work & Play’ weekend… and since the Nipika Crew opens up their South meadow for eager campers like yours truly, It’s an easy event to add to our roster!
.
This year marked a sold out event - and despite the threat of rain - the weather held off just in time to send everyone off home happy! As for those diehard campers that lingered an extra night… well - let’s just say that our gear is still wet!

“It’ll be fun!”, he said…

The last weather forecast I looked at before losing cell reception called for 10-15cm of snow… Maybe we’ll get lucky and the weather will turn, I thought. I looked at Val… “Worst case, we pack up and come home!”
.
Interlakes Campground in Peter Lougheed Provincial Park is one of our favourite escapes, so I was having a hard time letting the weekend slip away at the expense of a few snowflakes! Splitting both Upper & Lower Kananaskis - its proximity to water activities, hiking & running trails, and beautiful bike routes makes it a fan-favourite!
.
Along with my urge to unplug, I was most excited to test out our new offgrid solar/battery setup - which turned out to be pretty amazing! In fact, over the course of 3-days (with lots of snow and limited sunlight 😳 the battery barely went below 85%!
.
Inevitably, the snow flurries, turned to a proper snowstorm, and covered the ground for the bulk of our extended wknd adventure. I don’t think we’ve ever experienced Interlakes to be so quiet - that part was nice.
.
So despite the cool days, and constant snow flurries, we [… including Val in ‘we’ here, although she may disagree slightly!], loved every second of it. We read, slept, watched Nova bark at the ravens, hiked & ran the trails, and listened to the loon’s call, and the fire crackle .

First camping adventure of the season!
.
It’s been a busy spring, and with the schedule ramping up, it’s important to take the time to escape and reset in our local playground.
.
The R-POD got a few upgrades this spring, so we didn’t want to stray too far (just in case), and kept it close to home at one of our favourites - Elkwood campground in Peter Lougheed Provincial Park.
.
Despite a few snowbanks lingering and icy trail sections, the weather was fantastic and made for an awesome getaway!
.

Weekend Escape.

We’re fortunate to have so many great campgrounds within a short distance from home… The Bow Valley Provincial Park is only 25min away, but offers a great view of the river, quiet campsites, and tons of local trails to explore! […and bonus sketchy cell service so it forces me to disconnect!]
