some things about ✨me✨

📖 I’ve been romance reader forever (aka since I was sneaking my mom’s Nora Roberts and Lisa Kleypas paperbacks and reading them with a flashlight at way too impressionable an age)

🎨 I’m a serial collector of artsy hobbies (felting! block printing! acrylic painting!) but now raising a kid is my only hobby 🥲

❤️ Niche things I love: the coldest weather imaginable, people-watching on the MBTA, a latte made by anyone other than me, rewatching Fleabag season 2 when I’m sad, making plans and then cancelling them, toddler matching sets, swans on the Boston Esplanade, getting takeout immediately after grocery shopping by @nextchapterkate

HAPPY 1ST BOOK BIRTHDAY TO THE LOVES OF MY LIFE (Logan, Nicole, and @laurenokieauthor)

Will never get over this book, nor stop wishing I could delete it from my brain so I could experience it for the very first time again. It’s just one of those soul books, you know? And now somehow Lauren and I are real life friends and co-conspirators and our kids have played together?!?! Books are MAGIC 😭

The Best Worst Thing is out everywhere (obviously) and may I also recommend the audiobook because Kristen Sieh is perfect in it 💛 by @nextchapterkate

✨ It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Murder by Ally Carter ✨

I’m such a sucker for @theallycarter’s *exact* writing style. It’s quick, it’s punchy, it’s bingeable, and it’s so deeply tender underneath all the action. I adored her Blonde Identity series, and this had so much of the same vibe—intrigue, a little mystery, dramatic eleventh-hour reveals, and a beautiful love story between two people on the run. This book reminded me of all things I loved about Knives Out—campy and unserious on the surface, but simultaneously sincere and full of sweater-weather holiday charm. I adored this book.

Out tomorrow!!! Thank you to @avonbooks for chance to read this one early! by @nextchapterkate

If Not You by @ellenoclover is my new standard for rivals to lovers. This trope lives and dies by how well the backstory is developed, and here it was so rich and believable. Mattie and Campbell weren’t rivals because it was a cute little role-playing work dynamic—Mattie GENUINELY had to endure dream after dream get snatched away by Campbell. They epitomized the extreme ends of the rivals to lovers spectrum, and nothing in between. Either at each other’s throats or in deep, all-encompassing love. It was the best kind of whiplash.

During the “bitter rivals” portion of their story, I was not convinced that I would come to care for Campbell. He was the dorkiest of corporate dorks, and not in a fun way. OR SO I THOUGHT. God. The turn this book took around 50% floored me. He convinced me. This man is all green flags, and he became everything Mattie needed as she came to realize they actually didn’t hate each other the way she thought. He affirms her in a way she can actually accept, giving her space and assurance and the ability to control the trajectory of their relationship.

Just like The Heartbreak Hotel, Ellen’s prose and line-level writing is actual perfection. Every emotional moment hits all the right beats and made my chest physically ache. Ellen creates pure magic and I can’t wait to read every word she writes for the rest of time. by @nextchapterkate

I was so utterly charmed by this book that it may become an annual summer read. Dolly’s entire vibe is my very favorite—deadpan humor, quick wit, no-nonsense. She’s an overworked, under appreciated caretaker to her core who FINALLY lets herself be a little bit selfish for the first time in her adult life. Her summer fling/fake dating situation with the enigmatic Steward Whitfield felt so tentative and tender and, for better or worse, very true-to-life. A little bit like robots learning to love but in a completely endearing way. I ate it up. A truly lovely cast of characters (Gus! Christopher!!!) and beautiful Rhode Island setting rounded out this perfect book.

🌻 A Love Like the Sun by Riss M. Neilson

This is one of those books that I’ll recommend to anyone and everyone. It’s blissful to fall in love with the best friend you’ve known since childhood, but it’s angsty and awkward, too. @rissmneilson writes about it all so beautifully—the magic AND the hard parts.

Laniah and Issac’s dynamic is delicious. This is a man that will literally do anything for her, which he proves over and over as she struggles to keep her business afloat while battling a chronic illness (plus medical misogyny along with it). They are each *exactly* what the other needs, and it’s so cathartic watching them realize what was between them all along. I love this book with my entire soul. by @nextchapterkate

Go into this book completely clueless. Don’t make assumptions about what flavor of paranormal romance it is based on the cover (like I did). Don’t even read the synopsis. Die for Me is a wild, seductive, exceptionally hot ride, best experienced with zero preconceptions. It’s been a while since I’ve read something that I’d qualify as a “page-turner,” but Shirlene’s storytelling is so fresh and so compelling that you won’t want to put it down until all of your questions are answered. A+++

Die for Me by Shirlene Obuobi is out now ❤️‍🔥 by @nextchapterkate
