NEXTGEN Alumni Leadership Council members recently joined young leaders, advocates, policymakers, and partners at the Young Invincibles National Summit in our nation’s capitol for conversations about leadership, civic engagement, and building power across generations and communities.

NEXTGEN ALC led two conversations:

🎤 Is It My Turn to Lead? Traversing Intergenerational Organizations
Featuring Dr. LaSella L. Hall, Candace Prince-Modeste, and Cianni A. Phillips

🎤 Political Tribalism: Rebuilding the Multicultural/Multiethnic Coalition
Featuring Dr. LaSella L. Hall and Jessica Douglas alongside Jason Avila of the Maryland Legislative Latino Caucus and Claresse Oliveria of Anne Arundel Community College

From navigating leadership across generations to strengthening multicultural and multiethnic coalitions, NEXTGEN ALC continues to create space for emerging leaders to contribute, connect, and help move our communities forward.

Thank you to Young Invincibles for bringing together leaders committed to learning from one another and shaping what leadership looks like for the next generation.

NEXTGEN Alumni Leadership Council 2019 cohort member Abiola Agoro took the stage at the 117th NAACP National Convention for the Youth & College Division’s “Own the Narrative” workshop and panel.

As an educator, organizer, and multimedia creator, Abiola helped equip emerging leaders to move from simply consuming digital content to creating with purpose, authenticity, and strategic impact.

Her message reinforced the power of digital storytelling to challenge misinformation, reclaim the Black experience, and mobilize communities for meaningful change.

We celebrate Abiola for using her voice and expertise to help the next generation own the narrative and shape what comes next.

🎤 NEXTGEN leader Leslie Redmond brought her experience and perspective to a powerful, all-woman panel at the 117th NAACP National Convention in Chicago.

During “The Present Crisis: America at 250 and the Black Experience in the Nation’s Story,” Leslie joined leaders from across generations to examine today’s civil rights challenges and the solutions needed to move our communities forward.

Drawing from her experience as an attorney, advocate, and former president of the Minneapolis NAACP, Leslie emphasized the importance of sharing generational wisdom while recognizing the young leaders already advancing justice through grassroots action.

We are proud to see Leslie continuing to lead, activate, and shape the national conversation.

NextGen Graduates,

9 years ago the NextGen Program was launched with a small delegation attending L500. Since 2017, hundreds of you participated in what I believe was one of the most important and impactful leadership programs in our nation, and definitely in the Association’s history. How would we have known that just a few years later that many of our hard fought gains in education, health equity, housing, criminal justice, DEI and voting rights would be eroded. We were preparing you for a battle that was already difficult and a situation that was already dire, prior to 2016 and 2025. I said then, and repeat now, “I’m encouraged by being exposed to the nation’s brightest Black (and other) activists who we need for a time such as this.” You ARE the right person, for the right time, as most are overwhelmed, disillusioned, disgusted and waiting for the tide to turn or the storm to subside. TVs are off and many are becoming weathered to this craziness. You always run in! You keep the faith! You prepare for the fight! I (we), want to express our appreciation for each and every one of you! Please take care of you, stay encouraged and let’s get ready to not just get back to the status quo, but to truly win!

We are deeply saddened by the passing of one of our own on April 27, CJ Pulluaim.

A proud member of the 2019 NAACP NextGen Leadership Program, he remained an active force within the NextGen Alumni Leadership Council and the NAACP Kansas City, Missouri community. His commitment to service left a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He will be remembered for his vibrant personality, his dedication to the work, and the light he brought into every space.

We honor his legacy and extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and all those he inspired. 🕊️ by @nextgenalumni
