Atlanta businesses & organizations making a difference ❤️ If you’re looking for ways to give back in Atlanta, start by looking for the helpers. One of my favorite parts of exploring Atlanta has been discovering the people, businesses, and organizations creating real community impact behind the scenes. Some help people rebuild their lives. Some create jobs and opportunities. Others support local farmers, small businesses, families facing food insecurity, refugees, and communities that deserve to see themselves represented. A few Atlanta organizations and businesses making a difference: 📍 No Longer Bound — helping men overcome addiction, rebuild careers, and reconnect with their families 📍 Brewable — creating meaningful employment opportunities for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities 📍 Shops of Dunwoody Farmers Market — bringing together 30+ local vendors and making it easy to support local farmers, makers, and small businesses 📍 Refuge Coffee — creating jobs, community, and support for refugees building a new life in Atlanta 📍 Charis Books & More — fostering community, conversation, and diverse voices through one of Atlanta’s most beloved independent bookstores 📍 The Lavender Bookshop — centering LGBTQ+ voices through thoughtfully curated books, events, and community gatherings 📍 The Thrift Spot — turning secondhand shopping into real impact by helping fund free groceries for Atlanta families facing food insecurity Giving back doesn’t always have to mean making a huge donation. Sometimes it looks like volunteering for a few hours. Sometimes it looks like supporting a mission-driven business. Sometimes it looks like shopping local, attending community events, or simply choosing to spend your time and money in places that make a positive impact. Looking for ways to give back in Atlanta? 💛 Here are 4 Atlanta thrift stores where your shopping can support a good cause! As a nonprofit professional, I’ve seen how powerful giving back can be, which is why I started my Hometown Helpers series to spotlight Atlanta nonprofits, people, and businesses making a difference. 🛍️ The Drake Closet — part of The Drake House, which supports mothers and children experiencing homelessness as they work toward stable housing. The store feels more like a consignment shop, with great brands without having to dig through racks of duds. 👗 The Thrift Spot — supports food security in Atlanta and has some great finds. Last time I visited, they even had a full rack of brand-new-with-tags SKIMS clothing! 👔 No Longer Bound — helps men overcome addiction and rebuild their lives. They also have open dressing rooms, so you can actually try on clothes without changing over your outfit! 🛒 2W Thrift — supports healthcare, education, and mentorship in West Africa. It’s one of the largest and coolest thrift stores I’ve visited in Atlanta, with a huge Y2K and vintage section. There’s even a food truck outside, so you can make a whole day of shopping! The best part? Details from our café-themed engagement party that just make sense ☕️🤎 We turned an at-home engagement party into our own little café, complete with a custom Café Nejad sign and so many personal touches! If you’re planning an engagement party, bridal shower, or café-themed celebration, here are some details to borrow for your own event. ☕️ A “To Have & To Hold” mug wall that my parents built, with thrifted mugs for all 60 guests to take home as favors 📰 A custom engagement newspaper I designed, complete with our photos, a letter from the editor, and a crossword puzzle I created on @canva 💐 A build-your-own bouquet flower bar with a custom sign 🍬 Macaron towers made by my bridesmaids, plus donuts, sandwiches, fruit, and a full spread of treats 🥂 A champagne table and mimosa bar, plus espresso martini Jell-O shots 🤎 Custom café-logo stickers for our coffee drinks from @etsy 💌 Save-the-dates displayed in postcard holders and a marriage-advice “tips jar” for guests to leave us their wisdom 📸 A Polaroid wall where everyone could leave a photo keepsake from the day The goal was to make everything feel like a real little coffee shop while adding details that reflected us as a couple. If you’re planning an engagement party, wedding, bridal shower, or just love an excuse to throw a themed party, this might be my favorite DIY we did for my café-themed engagement party ☕️🤎 I wanted a coffee mug wall where every guest could choose a mug to use during the party and take home as a little favor. My fiancé helped me thrift mugs for 60 guests, and then my family and friends helped turn the idea into reality. My parents hand-built the mug wall from scratch, hand-wired all the flowers, and my bridesmaid helped paint and add the little details. I styled the coffee bar next to it with some of our special mugs, including a few made just for our family. 🥹 It was definitely a labor of love, but seeing everyone pick out their own mug made it so worth it. 🤎 Saving this one for anyone planning a café-themed engagement party, at-home coffee party, bridal shower, wedding shower, or looking for a fun hosting idea for coffee lovers! ☕️ And to my fiancé, family & friends who helped me thrift, build, paint, wire, decorate and bring this whole vision to life! 2W Thrift: An Atlanta Thrift Store That Gives Back 💛 One of the coolest thrift stores in Atlanta also happens to be giving back to communities in West Africa 💛 2W Thrift is a massive Black-owned thrift store with a little bit of everything — vintage clothing, Y2K and contemporary fashion, plus-size finds, accessories, home goods, and more. The store is huge, so you could easily spend a few hours browsing and hunting for unique pieces. What makes this stop even better is that your purchases help support West African communities through the Lamin & Kadie Bah Foundation, including efforts focused on education, healthcare, and mentorship.
