The Nexus Women’s Health Collective is a 9 month accelerator program for pre-seed / seed women’s health companies, in partnership with Barclays
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Our free app is now live in the UK Apple App Store 🤩😍🥹

Feels surreal to be finally able to say that after spending the last couple years building a proprietary AI architecture and its own LLM built from the ground up to deliver maximum personalisation and data protection.

As many of you know we have a gap in research done in women as well as AI sometimes hallucinating or making stuff up - not a good combo!

But the mission remained the same

Re create all the reasons why 1-1 online health coaching can be so life changing for women but at an accessible price point so I never needed to leave a sales call again knowing I could really help someone but they couldn’t afford it*

Your body and health does not occur in isolation so why does your health tech!

By unifying fitness, nutrition, medication and cycle tracking alongside a digital health coach

Nexus gives women a single intelligent platform.

More on your AI coach Nova coming later

But for now, it would mean the world if you took 2 minutes to download the free app today

Every download counts when trying to make the App Store charts and supports in our fundraising conversations

Any questions don’t hesitate to reach out!

Thank you so much to the whole team, I’m running out of characters and tags but
@healthbyholly__ , @clareheslin, @izzypriortalks , @jeniferdomingos , @optimum_coach

Especially to @jack.baeza , not my co-founder anymore but still my best friend and biggest supporter.

@adamswainn , @huntvisuals__ for the last minute scramble

And more friends than I can count who have not let me quit. You know who you are 💜 by @nexusconnected

Sure, you can ask ChatGPT, but...

It won’t remember your last period.
It won’t know how your body responds to training in the luteal phase.
It won’t link your bloating to your stress, and not just your diet.

Because general AI isn’t women’s health AI.

That’s where Nexus, your personal AI health coach, comes in.

It doesn’t just answer your questions, it understands your patterns, goals, and physiology. From PMS to PCOS, missed periods to macros, Nexus connects the dots your body is drawing.

You deserve more than generic advice.

💜 Join the waitlist for Nexus. Let’s change the future of women’s health!

66km over London to draw a @strav.art Vul*v*

And a marathon with a period pain simulator (for 16km of it)

Both events done 2 weeks apart for @theendometriosisfoundation and @censhershipcampaignofficial

I messed the route up at the north West Point and south east meaning this doesn’t look as much like a Vu*lv* as it should but hopefully it’s still noticeable enough that with the scale over London it will get some people to stop scrolling and read this

Tech platforms are censoring women’s health anatomy and language

As well as banning ads about perfectly normal women’s health experiences or conditions

The opposite isn’t true for men

If I even use the word vulv* I get a notification asking if I’m sure I want to post this

@talkswithdrsesay is one of the many doctors talking about the very real consequences this on women’s relationships with their body’s and subsequently how lo no they delay seeking care

I ran the marathon with a period pain simulator on to raise awareness for how much harder women with endometriosis or even ‘regular’ period pains have it in terms of planning life around their cycles and the impacts of pain

I couldn’t keep the cramp simulator on for longer than 16kms and ran the whole marathon in the same time it took me to run a marathon inside yesterdays ultra marathon

Which tells you everything you need to know about how much harder it was

Thank you @carlacressy , @itscliowood , Anna O’Sullivan for your support in doing these 2 events for you

Thank you @drzahra.blogs for joining me on my silly idea to run 66km, I didn’t believe you when you offered 🤣 but I’m very glad we got to do that together

Thank you everyone who joined us for the last 5k yesterday!

And @elliotmeeten for picking me up 55k when I really needed it to get to the meet point for the last 5k on time

And @deirdre.o.neill @hertility for the merch! Hertility are amazing advocates of the censorship campaign

The donation link is in my bio and will also be on my stories so if you can please feel free to donate to these 2 great causes - @theendometriosisfoundation and @censhershipcampaignofficial

I’ll match all donations 💜🫶 by @nexusconnected

Should we be studying the v*ginal microbiome?

Dr Chrysi the founder of @xxinnovation came on The Women’s Wellness Show to talk about the $1 Trillion missed opportunity on studying and connecting the women’s health ecosystem

Full podcast episode via the link in my bio @leotysonn2

We also covered:

Fragmentation across the full pathway, from regulation and NHS access through to investment incentives and patient involvement, and why each breakdown point needs its own solution.

Regulation is not the enemy. Why the fear of the regulatory process is a perception problem, not a reality, and why it is never too early for founders to engage with the MHRA.

Misaligned investment incentives. Why the lack of a clear return pathway pushes companies toward wellness when the real need is diagnostics and therapeutics.

The knowledge gap. How little we still understand about female physiology, and why that blocks meaningful progress across the whole system.

Advice for founders. Decide who you are, engage the regulator early, think about your clinical validation, and always centre the patient. by @nexusconnected

*Women’s health isn’t just reproductive or gynecological health

Women’s health is health! Only 5% of conditions and diseases a women experience are conditions that affect women solely, 95% are the ones which affect women differently and disproportionately

Therefore if your building in health, unless it’s male specific, your building in women’s health

Women’s health is therefore a sector but also a lens we need to look at multiple other sectors through by @nexusconnected

We need to talk about investors problem with vaginas!

@marinagerner PhD came on The Women’s Wellness Show to talk about her book The Vagina Business

And what can female founders practically do to overcome barriers in fundraising

Link in my bio for Apple, Spotify and YT

What We Covered:

The origin story: 9 in 10 first-time mothers experience a birth injury. The last major innovation in standard birth care was the epidural, popularised in the 1950s. That gap is what sent Marina down this rabbit hole.

Why stigma is the root cause: When a topic is too uncomfortable to discuss, problems go unrecognised and unfunded. One investor is quoted saying he doesn’t want to talk about vaginas at his Monday morning partner meeting.

The VC funding reality: Only 0.25% of all companies receive VC. Of that, just 2–4% goes into women’s health. Female founding teams get roughly 1–2% of all VC despite making up 20–40% of founders.

The gender congruence trap: Female founders raise more easily in fashion, beauty, and children’s products. Women’s health sits in an awkward middle — too stigmatised for some investors, too hardware-heavy for others. The “lack of fit bias.”

The craft beer study : Consumers expected beer made by a woman to taste worse and paid less for it. Two things closed the gap: external validation and domain expertise.

Promotion vs prevention questions: Investors ask female founders how they’ll handle losses; they ask male founders what success looks like. When you get a prevention-based question, answer with a promotion-based frame.

Practical strategies: Apply for awards and grants actively. Look up previous recipients and reach out. Grants are non-dilutive funding and a powerful third-party validation signal, a dual benefit many founders underestimate.

Key Takeaways:

-Seek external validation proactively such as awards, grants, press. Don’t wait for it to come to you.

-Spin prevention questions into promotion answers in every pitch.

-Investing in women’s health is a commercial opportunity, not a social impact play. by @nexusconnected

Very excited for this event in 2 weeks in collaboration with @censhershipcampaignofficial

Link in my bio @leotysonn2

Women’s health founders and content creators face many specific barriers such as:

-Misinformation + Confusion

-Trust / Personal health data

-The research gap meaning evidence-based guidance is constantly evolving

-Censorship, women’s health content is being shadowbanned or removed entirely, contributing to the rise of misinformation

63% of women use social media to research health or wellness information at least occasionally (1)

First time founders focus on product, second time founders focus on distribution

I don’t completely love that saying in women’s health because an evidence-based product is so important, but it doesn’t make the distribution piece less true

I’m working on exciting plans to support women’s health startups with content creation and bringing ambassadors into the fold

Starting with an event in two weeks in collaboration with @censhershipcampaignofficial , Tue 21st April, 3.45pm

This event is for women’s health founders + marketing

A panel and themed small group workshops to unpack your challenges around fundraising, marketing, brand, storytelling & content creation

Don’t miss this amazing opportunity to get hands on expert support:

“If this was a problem wouldn’t it have been solved by now?”

You’d like to think because a problem affects 50% of the population it would have been acknowledged and solutions would have been in the works

But that hasn’t been the case with women’s health

@radytee explains the first hypothesis and then prototype which led to the creation of @samphireneuro

A must listen for idea or early stage founders

@jodalton is the founder of JD&Co is the go to Global Exec Search & Advisory firm supporting the founders, funders, and leaders of high growth disruptive tech fuelled brands

She’s also a founding member of Alma Angels, an angel syndicate focused on supporting women’s led companies

Jo’s experience and visibility over the landscape make her incredibly well placed to discuss how to start your company as a founder and finding your first angel investors!

Just a small handful of the lessons and tips we cover:

-Don’t quit your job until you have your first 1000 true fans

-Validate your idea first by getting 150 people on a waitlist for your solution

-Understand how equity works and don’t be to eager to give it away

-Don’t give a board set to an early investor

-Your first angel investors might not identify as traditional angels!

There was so many gems in this episode I’m incredibly grateful for Jo sharing her time and expertise with us all

One of the many amazing benefits of studying menstrual blood as opposed to a traditional blood test!

Léa has a PhD from Cambridge in clinical neuroscience

She started @cyclanabio nearly a year ago and announced a £5 million seed round in October co led by NfX and Eka VC

We discussed her journey with endometriosis, unlike many women who start presenting with symptoms alongside puberty, Léa didn’t start getting these symptoms until her early 20’s and she shared some very interesting thoughts as to why that might be which I’d never heard before!

She also shared her experience with using HBC for endometriosis management as well as how she manages her triathlon training and recovery

We then moved into the work and research herself and her team are doing in Cambridge to build whole tissue disease models from menstrual fluid and lab work to study tissue mechanisms which will identify early biomarkers and druggable targets

As well as why and how you should donate your menstrual blood to science!
