Earlier today, we launched the 2026 NYFF Youth Democracy Index Report, a report shaped by the voices of young Nigerians across all six geopolitical zones.

What do young people really think about democracy, leadership and their power to create change? The answers show a generation that's frustrated but far from giving up, and they raise important questions about what it will take for young people to truly shape Nigeria's future.

Swipe through for a glimpse, then read the full report here 👉 www.nigeriayouthfund.org/resources

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the launch. Now let's keep the conversation going. Read it, share it, and tell us what stood out to you. 💬

Across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, young people were convened under the NYFF National Visioning Pillar to reflect on their lived realities, share collective aspirations, and articulate the Nigeria they want to see. These conversations created space for young people to speak honestly about the challenges they face daily, the systems that shape their lives, and the changes they believe are necessary for a more just and inclusive nation.

Through this process, youth voices were centred as critical drivers of national development, contributing insights that now inform The Nigeria We Want Report (Version 2.0) and broader governance reform efforts.

Together, these engagements reinforce the importance of building a Nigeria that is shaped with, and not merely for, its young people. by @ng_youthfund

October 2020. Young Nigerians filled the streets, and something rare happened. No tribe. No religion. No gender line. No education barrier. And no single leader. Dr. Elisabeth O. A. Douglas looks back at EndSARS and what made it different: some of its strongest voices were young women and feminist groups, and Nigerians from every background stood together because "this thing affects all of us."

But passion alone isn't enough. So what comes after the protest? Dr. Douglas reveals how the Youth Leadership Development Programme (YLDP) her organisation runs is preparing university students and NYSC corps members to research the issues, understand the history and constraints, and speak with facts, not just feelings. Is this the missing piece in Nigeria's youth movement? Watch to the end and tell us

"Nigeria's founding fathers weren't old men when they took on colonial rule.

Nnamdi Azikiwe. Anthony Enahoro. Obafemi Awolowo. Many of them were young when they shaped the nation's political history"

And it didn't stop there. Dr. Elisabeth O. A. Douglas reminds us of a fact many Nigerians have forgotten: the first military administrator of Rivers State was still in his twenties"
So here's the question: if young people built Nigeria's past, what will THIS generation be remembered for?
