STEM is all around us, yet women have been historically excluded from STEM and continue to be underrepresented in most STEM fields in higher education, registered apprenticeship programs, and the workforce.

Now more than ever, we encourage you to take action! National STEM Day is an opportunity to raise awareness and foster change. We all can play a role in shifting discriminatory practices that hinder girls' and women's participation and access to STEM.

Read our latest blog to learn more about fostering change and how you can take action-link in bio.

Girls and women do not differ in their abilities but have fewer opportunities to explore and develop in STEM than boys and men. Become an ally for girls and women pursuing STEM by fostering collaboration and inclusive environments. When we STEM Together, we create equal opportunities for all. #TakeThePledge #STEMTogether by @ngcproject

Girls asked the questions. MacArthur Fellows answered.

This past Saturday at the New York Hall of Science, Nicola Dell, Kristina Douglass, and Martha Muñoz talked about how they found their way into science, the obstacles they faced along the way, and what their lives look like outside of work. Members of our Youth Advisory Board moderated the panel. After the discussion, the Fellows led hands-on workshops connected to their research.

Thank you to Alyssa, Angelina, and Rashi for moderating the panel with such thoughtfulness, to the New York Hall of Science for hosting us, and to the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation for making the day possible.

As International Day of the Girl wraps up, we asked our Youth Advisory Board to finish one sentence: “Investing in girls means...”

Their answers point to what still needs to change. Women make up 48% of the workforce but only 35% of STEM jobs. Closing that gap starts with investing in girls long before they have a title or a resume.

Three MacArthur Fellows are spending a Saturday afternoon answering questions from high school girls.

On October 24, we are partnering with the New York Hall of Science in Queens for STEM Role Models for Transformative Change: MacArthur Fellows Dialogues, an event supported by the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation.

Nicola Dell, Kristina Douglass, and Martha Muñoz will talk about how they found their way into science, the obstacles they have faced, and what their lives look like outside of work. Members of our Youth Advisory Board are moderating, and hands-on workshops follow.

Not in New York? The panel is free to stream. Learn more at the link in bio. by @ngcproject

A great week in Phoenix at the ASTC Annual Conference!

NGCP had a great time at the ASTC Annual Conference connecting with STEM organizations and sharing more about the IF/THEN® Champions Network.

From our booth to our pre-conference and conference sessions, we loved talking with museums, science centers, zoos, libraries, and other organizations about ways to bring IF/THEN® resources into exhibits, programs, and learning experiences.

Thanks to everyone who stopped by, joined a session, or connected with our team. We’re grateful for the conversations and connections that made this conference a great experience.

Did you know that we already know what helps girls stay in STEM?

A new literature review by Beach, Knaphus-Soran, and Litzler for the Society of Women Engineers gathered the 2025 research on women in engineering and STEM to find what is actually working.

A few of the takeaways:

🌀 Role models, mentors, and informal learning still matter.

🌀 Action-oriented language helps young girls see science as something they do.

🌀 Hands-on, student-centered teaching builds belonging.

🌀 Educators need lasting support to widen access in precollege STEM pathways.

The strategies exist. Educators need the resources to put them to work.

We asked 552 education professionals across K-12 formal and informal learning environments how AI is showing up in their work. Six findings came out of it.

The full report, including six recommendations for the field, is linked in our bio.

Did you know that friendships may be one of the strongest predictors of whether girls stay interested in STEM?

A new study by Cyr and colleagues followed 1,330 youth in summer STEM camps to see how peer relationships shape girls' STEM intentions.

Here is what they found:

✨️ Mixed-gender friendships may hold unique benefits for girls in STEM environments.

✨️ Girls who felt socially included by boy peers reported a stronger sense of belonging, and that belonging predicted more positive STEM intentions.

✨️ Building inclusive friendships into STEM programming may help sustain girls' long-term interest.

The takeaway for educators and program leaders: peer support is not a nice extra. It is part of the design. When we build STEM experiences that help every young person feel included, we help girls build the belonging that keeps them coming back.
