Word of the Week: Isosthenuria. This is a medical term for dilute urine. If you notice your pet has very dilute (pale or clear) urine, call us to make an appointment. It is often, but not always, accompanied by a significant increase in drinking and a need to urinate more frequently. This can be an early sign of an underlying health condition like kidney disease, Cushing's disease, hyperthyroidism and diabetes. Catching things early can be helpful with a good long-term outcome, so don't ignore new issues! by @ngpethospital

Wednesday Word of the Week - coprophagia. This is a fun word for a gross thing that some dogs do; eating poop. We're not sure why they think it's good (especially from the cat box, yuck!), but they do. Picking it up quickly, watching your dog when you're out and getting a cat box with a lid are all ways to help minimize this habit. Regular fecal parasite tests and monthly deworming (heartworm preventatives also take care of many fecal parasites) will help keep your dog healthy and lower the possibility of transmitting those parasites to you! by @ngpethospital

Fun Fact Friday is brought to you today from a 2022 NY Post article.
"Out of 2,000 American pet owners in the study, which was reported by OnePoll and commissioned by mattress company Sealy, 66% said they allow their precious pets to sleep in their bed, while 58% of respondents in relationships admitted to preferring to share a bed with their furry friends and not their significant others." Where do you fall in these percentages?

Word of the Week: Zoonosis - a disease which can be transmitted to humans from animals.
Preventable diseases transmitted from pets can be mitigated through vaccinations and regular use of flea/tick and heartworm preventatives.
Vaccines play a crucial role in shielding both you and your pets from illnesses such as leptospirosis and rabies.
Consistent year-round use of flea/tick and heartworm preventatives is essential for safeguarding against various health threats, including intestinal parasites like tapeworm, roundworm, and hookworm. These preventatives also help protect against diseases carried by fleas and ticks, such as Cat Scratch Fever, Plague, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, and Lyme. by @ngpethospital
