In Egypt, I found it difficult to capture its beauty in a still frame. Floating down the Nile, crossing streets in Cairo, tracing the banks of canals- a pace and a life foreign to my own, yet deeply coherent. The call to prayer five times a day, stopping a community in unison- some in devotion others in quiet witness- created a shared pause that was stirring and felt almost unimaginable in a world I know. What stayed with me more than what I saw was what I felt. Walking out of a tomb into a sun so blinding against the undistracting pale desert- evoking the light people describe in near death experience. The lush, almost unreal vegetation along the banks of the Nile- as if simulated not grown. The seemingly strange cadence of street traffic defying my notions of order yet functioning with its own internal logic. The scale of the temples that make you feel profoundly small and simultaneously awed by the sophistication of a civilization thousands of years before your time. I only glimpsed a fraction- fleeting, against the tremendousness of it all- but can already sense how much more there is to feel- again and again. It was such a joy to get to step into the warm and (despite having to dance out a few backstage jitters) welcoming world of The Drew Barrymore Show to celebrate our exceptional friend. When you guiltily sneak away from everything, and it’s worth it @bnpickett22 The Rothko exhibit as you have heard or seen for yourself was exquisite and almost overwhelmingly robust for a one time visit. It is the kind of exhibit I would have liked the opportunity to return to multiple times to allow itself to open up in new ways. Even just the pictures I took revealed colors I missed with own eye and then, upon relooking at the piece, seemed so startlingly obvious and impossible to have had missed. The Rothko Chapel paintings stole the show for me-  I had never seen them in person and could not believe the depth of color revealed the longer I looked at each piece.  I long to one day see them in their Houston home. See more here: https://www.rothkochapel.org Passing through the rooms I hoped there might be a Yellow Expanse surprise at the end.  I once had the privilege of standing before it in person (last slide)- it hits you with this incredible, whopping beam of vitamin D and was one of my great experiences with a painting.
