Small hands, big discoveries! 🧠🚀

Today, Aryan, Rishi, Ani, Ayaan, and Arnav returned to Shakerag for another exciting afternoon of hands-on aerospace engineering! This time, students took on the challenge of designing and building spacecraft landers capable of protecting a payload during impact. Along the way, they explored concepts like gravity, air resistance, and impact forces, experimenting with different structures, parachutes, and cushioning materials to achieve a safe landing! 🛸⚡️

Through this challenge, students got to experience what it means to think like an engineer, turning creative ideas into real designs, learning from their tests, and finding ways to improve. Our goal was to inspire curiosity, encourage teamwork, and show the next generation of innovators just how exciting aerospace engineering can be! 🚀✨ by @nhs.aerospace

Northview Aerospace Society welcomed Ethan Lin and Carson Bove from UGA’s Small Satellite Research Laboratory for a behind-the-scenes look at turning a research question into a space mission!

We followed the CubeSat lifecycle from mission planning and thermal simulations to assembly, vibration testing, launch, and communicating with satellites through COSMO’s ground station. Along the way, we explored coastal monitoring with SPOC, onboard 3D mapping with MOCI, and NeuroCube’s proposed studies of brain cell health in space.

Our Q&A tackled how teams choose missions, scale ambitious ideas to fit real budgets and timelines, and bring mechanical engineering, electronics, programming, and biology together. We also learned about LEARNSat’s efforts to make satellite research accessible to younger students.

Thank you, Ethan, Carson, and SSRL, for sharing your work and giving us fresh inspiration for our own CubeSat initiative! 🚀

Friday Fun with Northview Aerospace Society! 🚀😁

Today, Rishi, Ayaan, Violet, Arnav, Ani, Farzan, and Richard brought aerospace engineering to Shakerag Elementary with a hands-on soda bottle rocket workshop. Students worked in teams to design their rockets, think about core concepts like thrust, drag, stability, and center of gravity, and then put their ideas to test through launch! 🧠⚡️

Beyond the rockets themselves, the goal was to give young students an early look into the engineering process - designing, testing, observing, and improving - while making aerospace feel exciting, accessible, and fun!

A little engineering, but a lot of fun! 🚀

We will begin our outreach workshops at Shakerag Elementary, hoping to inspire the younger generation in aerospace engineering and related fields by hosting hands-on workshops focused on smaller versions of our more ambitious club initiatives!
