- Stay in work

- Manage their health while working

Need emergency contraception? Think Pharmacy First.

Most community pharmacies can provide you with the emergency contraceptive pill (morning after pill) for free, without you seeing a GP.

They can also discuss long term contraception options with you at the same time.

Jacki was able to get NHS treatment for sinusitis direct from a local pharmacy, without needing to see her GP.

Most pharmacists can supply prescription medicine for conditions, including sore throat, earache, UTI, shingles and impetigo. Think #PharmacyFirst

New data shows that the 125 GP practices in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire provided more than 638,000 appointments in the month of August 2026, that's 57,000 more than August last year, an increase of almost 9%.

You can contact your GP surgery using a secure and confidential online form on their website during opening hours. If you need a GP out-of-hours, please call NHS 111 or use NHS 111 online.

There's nothing worse than getting that dreaded call from school to say your child is poorly.

But when Michelle was contacted to say her daughter, Rianne had earache, she took her to the local pharmacy, was seen straight away and left with NHS medicine in 10 minutes.

Rianne was treated through Pharmacy First, a NHS service, which means highly trained pharmacists are now able to assess and treat patients for seven common conditions:
➡️ Urinary tract infection (water infection) in women aged 16-64 years
➡️ Sinusitis in those aged 12 years and over
➡️ Sore throat in those aged 5 years and over
➡️ Impetigo (a type of skin infection) in those aged over 1 year.
➡️ Shingles in those 18 years and over
➡️ Infected Insect bite in those aged over 1 year
➡️ Earache in children 1 -17 year

If you have symptoms of these conditions, you can access the service by either just walking into a participating pharmacy or being referred by your GP. More than 200 community pharmacies across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire are providing the service.
