A year ago today, I disembarked from one of the most transformative adventures of my life: @semesteratsea 🌍⚓️

Voyage 134 took us to ten countries across three continents within 3.5 months. On board, I took classes studying religion, history, culture, art, and what people believe about truth. I met some of my dearest friends (who still make great travel buddies to this day😉) and worked as a student assistant + vlogger for the communications team. We created content for @semesteratsea platforms in addition to my own (I miss you coms team!!). The experience expanded my global perspective immeasurably.

But more than anything, this voyage marked a pivotal point in my faith journey…

Being immersed in so many cultures, belief systems, and ways of thinking forced me to confront questions I didn’t have easy answers to. Questions about justice, goodness, salvation, and how God works across an incredibly diverse world. I realized something important in that season: faith doesn’t mean having everything figured out. Sometimes it means being honest about what you don’t understand and choosing to trust God and what He says anyway.

“Be still, and know that I am God.” (Psalm 46:10) became an anchor for me - not because it answered all my questions, but because it reminded me who He is and who I am not. I don’t have the capacity to carry the weight of the world or eight billion people’s different life stories… but God, the Creator, does.

That realization shifted how I live. Instead of feeling overwhelmed by what I can’t control, I turn my focus to God, trusting that He is good, just, and at work far beyond what I can see. So, I take this life one day at a time, trying my best to love the people God places right in front of me.

If you’re in a season of questioning, you’re not alone, and you’re not doing faith “wrong.” Sometimes, wrestling is where growth begins. Bring your questions to God, His Word, and have those sometimes hard but necessary conversations with those around you.

I’m so grateful for a season that taught me to be present, listen, love people well, and trust God more deeply - both across the globe and in the everyday moments back home. Thank you, 134. 🤍 Semester at Sea taken in Semester At Sea by @niah_jo
