🌏 Our vision is that Indigenous Peoples’ guardianship is enabled everywhere possible on Earth as part of a just and vibrant future.
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
We’re continuing our International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists series with voices from the Maasai Peoples on the deep connections between land, culture, and livelihoods.

Maasai leaders and elders share how land dispossession is affecting Indigenous communities today, while raising important questions about what these losses could mean for future generations.

We’re deeply grateful to Laissa Malih and the team at @nomadfootprintske for bringing together these stories and perspectives from the Maasai community.

Follow along for more learnings from Indigenous voices throughout our IYRP series.

Together, they are a force that sustains communities, protects traditions, and keeps pastoralist livelihoods alive. 🌿

At Naramatisho Women Centre in Makuyuni, Tanzania, indigenous pastoralist women remind us that resilience is built through collective effort, shared knowledge, and unwavering solidarity. Each woman carries a story of strength, and together, they weave a future rooted in dignity, unity, and hope.

When pastoralist women stand together, they do more than endure — they nurture, lead, and transform their communities.

🤝🤝🤝🤝🤝🤝🤝🤝🤝🤝🤝🤝🤝

🌎 We were happy to welcome Indigenous representatives from around the world to Toki during the Third Biennial Wayfinders Circle Gathering, held on Rapa Nui.

They explored our school, learned about our history, and enjoyed a performance by our students. A truly energizing visit!

Special thanks to Wayfinders and Pawanka Fund, whose support helps us carry out projects in cultural education, ancestral gardens, traditional arts, and the preservation of rapa nui heritage. 🌿 by @niatero

While global commitments to Indigenous and local land rights have grown to $2.35 billion, only a limited share of those funds is reaching the communities leading the work to protect and care for their lands.

The @bezosearthfund and @niatero are among those working to help close this gap by supporting more direct access to funding.

In 2025, our team met Nia Tero at Climate Week in New York. That meeting grew into a course: Indigenous Peoples' Rights and the Care of Mother Earth in Latin America and the Caribbean, shaped by Nia Tero and offered by Conservation Futures Academy in English and Spanish starting in January 2027.

Last week, Nia Tero and ASU were back at Climate Week together, this time with the course in hand.

We were also happy to spend time today with Melissa Nelson, whose work on Indigenous Conservation Collaborations and the Initiative for Indigenous Science and Conservation at the Rob Walton School grounds everything we’re building in Knowledge directly from those who hold it.

Conservation led by the people closest to the land. That is the practice. That is the course. Learn more in our newsroom, link in bio!

Our planet is our home 🌎 Caring for our shared home is an investment in a better future for all. Nia Tero’s CEO, ‘Aulani Wilhelm, beautifully describes how Indigenous Peoples have been caring for their lands and waters since time immemorial. For humanity to thrive, we must recognize Indigenous leadership and embrace the knowledge cultivated across generations by the planet’s first caretakers. 🌱🤲🏽

In a session from #ClimateWeekNYC, our CEO, ‘Aulani Wilhelm, sat down with founding CEO Peter Seligmann and Anne Marie Burgoyne, Board Member and Waverley Street Foundation’s Interim President, alongside Strategic Advisor, Chris Filardi, to explore the story behind Nia Tero and the importance of Indigenous Peoples’ guardianship in shaping a more sustainable future.
