Over 20 kids took to the skies with EAA Chapter 1 yesterday! We got an early start to beat the heat, and the event ran flawlessly from first briefing to last landing. We even got a special flyover from our friends in a local RV group! 🛩️

We also had the honor of congratulating our Ray Scholar, @holly_jolly55 , on passing her private pilot checkride! 🎉 We couldn’t be prouder, and we wish her all the best as she continues her aviation journey at the University of North Dakota this fall. From Young Eagle to private pilot to a top collegiate aviation program — Congrats, Holly, the sky’s the limit! 🎓✈️

Huge thanks to @jerembotlol for turning this video around so quickly, and to ALL of our incredible volunteers who make this happen every single month. You’re the reason these kids get their first taste of flight. 🙌

🛩️ 1,500 hours. ✈️

The 1,500-hour milestone is among the most significant hills to climb in any pilot’s journey. I was extremely fortunate to be part of an amazing aviation community spanning the San Jose State Flying 20s Flying Club, Southern California Soaring Academy, Horton Aviation, Rogue Aviation, Alaska Float Ratings, Lockwood Aviation, and Adventure Air.

The best part of flying is giving back to EAA Chapter 1 through the Young Eagles program and the scholarships we offer students. The community at Flabob Airport is incredibly welcoming and really does change people’s lives. I enjoy every minute of it. Onto the next adventure. 🚀

I also had so many fantastic instructors and mentors along the way — all mentioned below. Thank you all for teaching me to fly.

🔵 Blue dots = us. All 30+ flights we performed!!

Flabob was BUZZING on our Young Eagles day — between Young Eagles flights and volunteer flights, our pilots logged over 30 operations! You can literally SEE the energy in this map! 🗺️🔥

Orange dots are all other pilot traffic at Flabob that day….

Our volunteers were absolute rockstars keeping the pattern moving and the skies safe!

This is what a successful Young Eagles day looks like from above. We couldn’t be prouder of our pilots and crew! 🙌

🛫 What an INCREDIBLE day at our March Young Eagles event!!
Over 20 young future aviators took to the skies — and every single one of them landed with the BIGGEST smiles! 🌟 The weather couldn’t have been more perfect — calm winds, smooth skies, and nothing but pure flying joy! ☀️
None of this happens without our AMAZING volunteer pilots and ground crew who give their time and hearts to inspire the next generation of aviators. You all are what make this community so special! 🙌

✈️ EAA Chapter 1 First Young Eagles of 2026 – What a Success!

Our #eaachapter1 kickoff for 2026 was incredible! Over 20 Young Eagle flights plus many volunteer rides made it a morning to remember. The weather was perfect, and the kids had an absolute blast.

A huge thanks to our Young Eagles coordinator @mcglocklinjeff and Jim O’Brien from @eaa1712 for giving a fantastic introduction to Young Eagles and briefing all the parents and kids on what to expect.

We had 10+ amazing pilots taking kids up in everything from STOL taildraggers to Cessnas and Pipers… and even a super-fast hot rod red Mooney for thrilling 20-minute flights over Mt. Rubidoux and the Box Springs Mountains before returning to the airport.

We even had the special treat of witnessing the takeoff and landing of the famous #flabobexpress @flabobflyingcircus DC3 make an appearance!

No Young Eagles event is complete without our pancake breakfast 🥞, and we couldn’t have done it without our amazing volunteers – thank you all for making it happen!

Special shoutout to Cristian (@b0ngos ) for capturing the event on video 🎥 and our friends at @civilairpatrol for helping with airplane marshaling.

Good flying in 2025!

Highlights:
1. Became President of @eaa.chapter1 and Young Eagles Pilot
2. Earned Sport Gyroplane addon rating from @adventureairla in the Gyro Cavalon.
3. Helped @soaringacademy with STEM outreach at @irvingsteammagnetschool
4. Flew to Oshkosh with @kunalud
5. Flew gliders in Japan with @japansoaringclub
6. Flew 268.6 hours

Learning Experiences
1. Cylinder 4 failed and needed to be replaced. Plane was down for a month.
2. Both Pitch Trim cable and Aileron cables needed to be replaced and re-rigged respectively. taken in John Wayne Airport, Orange County by @nichcycler

2025 EAA Airventure was a massive success! Flew with my friend @kunalud to Oshkosh! Super long cross country flight with turbulence, dodging thunderstorms, and navigation over high terrain! Learned a lot from this trip and will be back!! #eaaairventure taken in EAA AirVenture Oshkosh by @nichcycler

What an action packed week! Visited my first @sjsu @sjsualumni mixture at @cervezacito in Santa Ana! Met a lot of great alumni and SJSU staff, including the University president! She mentioned that the university is at the forefront of #AI research and curriculum, which is so important in the current job climate!

Next day I volunteered at @soaringacademy for the monthly veterans Warriors SOAR event. Giving back to the community is so important and I’m happy to be able to help, flying the gliders!

Later that day flew my plane for some quick pattern work at @johnwayneair

Lastly, a road trip to @zionnps for my favorite half marathon of the year - @vacationraces Zion Half Marathon! Placed 2nd in age group! On the way to Zion, visited a fantastic outdoor art exhibited the Liberty Sculpture Park, strongly recommend! by @nichcycler

6th consecutive #zionhalfmarathon from @vacationraces . This is the one race every year I really go all out with max effort. I decided to try a built in @garminrunning training plan with @coachamypt on my #forerunner965 . The training plan was great and easy to follow. I felt that my performance was enhanced as a result. I increased my VO2 max by three points! Thanks so much @coachamypt !! I came in 2nd 🥈 in age group, which is a huge moral and mood booster. This race is exceptionally hard. It is high altitude, an uphill course, and on the day of the race had significant headwinds. Big thanks to @beastpacing for pacing this race! My ultimate goal for this course is sub 1:40. I will try again next year!
