‘You Can’t Force a River’

I am pleased to share that I am showing new work in an exhibition opening tomorrow at @thegeorgenewnham

The exhibition is called ‘Migration’ and is a group show of printmaking and glass by mostly Forest of Dean artists, put together by @theyardprintstudio and friends.
We’ve all made work on the theme of migration, and I’ve just spent four days putting it all together and up on the walls. It is a show to go see!

This work is an installation of Monotype prints on Japanese tissue and newsprint, in response to the poem ‘You Can’t Force a River’ by @emmamusty_author

The delicate tissue allows light to shine through the work and lets images show up in layers, changing as you move around and through the work.

The exhibition opens tomorrow at 10am and is on until Saturday 14th November 10-4pm (closed Sundays and Mondays).

There are also three evening events where you can meet the artists and engage in discussion on the theme. The first being our opening night tomorrow night 6-8pm!

All welcome!

✨18 days left to reach our target! ✨

We’ve had quite a few new followers here recently so wanted to say hi and welcome 🌿 and also give a little tour of the studio in pictures :-)

These are photographs taken mostly last year during our series of events and residencies as part of the @inkedprintfestival
Alongside documenting many of the beautiful moments that happened across the festival programme, our wonderful photographer Cam Adams also captured some of the lovely detail of the studio.

So here are some of the inbetween times shots, with all the lovely mess, laughing, making, sharing and doing. Including our three 2025 resident printmakers @studiosabrinashirazi @mgkochany and Harriet Hughes.

In the studio we have two main presses as well as screenprinting equipment, it is an incredibly well used and loved space. We never take for granted how special it is to have this space up and running.

The studio is mostly managed by me @nicholagoff with the help and support of an amazing community of people. Between myself, visiting tutors and volunteers we run courses, workshops, community print days, events, exhibitions and outreach projects most of the year round, apart from when we’re having a little recharge break.

If you would like to visit the studio we’re having an OPEN DAY on SATURDAY 26th SEPTEMBER 10-3. Do come down and say hello! There will be demos, print activities, tours, refreshments and a print sale 🌸

We’re also running a crowdfunder at the moment to raise funds to service and update our equipment which only has 18 days left and we’re still a way off from our target, so if you would like to support this brilliant studio then please head over to the crowdfunder and donate.
There’s a few lovely rewards you can claim… and there’s also a very heart warming film made by Cam Adams that shows off all the wonderful things about the studio ♥️

Any support massively helps!!

Thanks for reading! 😊

Link to crowdfunder in bio ⬆️⬆️⬆️ or head over to the website where there is also info about our courses and events.

🌿 CROWDFUNDER UPDATE 🌿

I mostly just want to share this beautiful film again, made by Cam Adams that captures the wonderful essence of our print studio ♥️

I also want to say a big big thank you to those of you who have donated to our crowdfunder so far… we’ve had some very generous donations bringing us nearly half way to meeting our target which is incredible 🙏

We’re also nearly halfway through the crowdfunding campaign with roughly six more weeks to go, so we’re doing super well thanks to you guys!

The pace has slowed down so this is a little reminder that if you haven’t donated yet and plan to then… ya know… the link is in the bio etc…. 😊

There’s some really great rewards you can claim for your donation too which we’ll share a bit more about in the next few weeks.

We need just over £500 to reach our first target of £2,500 and then we can release that money straight away and book the servicing of the two presses. So if you plan to chip in then please do or share with someone you think could be interested.

We want to keep this resource going and it would be fantastic to start the new term with shiny new serviced machines 🌿

“The boats… II”

Woodcut print and monotype
Printed with earth pigment inks

Part of a series of prints… ‘The boats…’ made last year after seeing a lot of graffiti around the Forest of Dean saying ‘Stop the boats’.
I made work the year before for a show called ‘Ebb and Flow’ where I invited people to monoprint onto rice paper and folded the prints into boats.. we then launched the paper boats onto the river Severn in honour of the rivers, considering the bad health they are in.

Watching the little fragile paper boats bob off down the river made me think a lot about humans travelling and our relationship with this planet… this work is kind of a continuation of that.. and thinking about how magic it is to travel… and how vulnerable people are when they try to travel in a world that says they are not welcome.

You can see the first print in this series currently on show at @ironbridgefinearts as part of their epic printmaking exhibition.. on until 26th September.

I’m not too good at having photos taken of me and find it a bit cringe standing by my work like a man who caught a big fish.

But I do quite like seeing other people’s posts of themselves at shows they are in. So here I am.

Me and @melanieclarkeartist made it up to the opening of the Ironbridge Printmaking competition at @ironbridgefinearts yesterday. It was absolutely heaving with people, a great buzz, although I still failed to properly talk to anyone I didn’t know 😆

The show is full of brilliant printmaking, and is on until September, do go see it if you get a chance.

It was also great to visit Ironbridge (funnily along the River Severn, which is the river I live near nearly 100 miles away), really interesting to see the links with engineering and industry there with a lovely family run printmaking business.

I’m pleased to get this work out and about, it’s considering migrating humans and the weird fear some people have of it. I’ll share more about the work.

Happy Sunday everyone 🤍

I’m off to the PV for the afternoon with @melanieclarkeartist who also has a print showing in the exhibition.

Very much looking forward to schmoosing with all the talented printmakers who are part of the show and seeing all the amazing work.

The making of the @inkedprintfestival community print with @rosannaprints 💚 Story below ⬇️
.
In the run up to the Inked Festival last year we had a wonderful day in the studio where lots of people turned up and helped us create a large scale print to celebrate the beauty of printmaking.
.
Many many hands carved jigsaw pieces of lino following a design skilfully created by Rosanna… the design shows printmaking tools and hands working with them… these were carved out with care and background textures added by everyone who worked on the lino blocks.
.
The day was a beautiful hub of connecting, making, laughing and working together.
.
The result is a lively wonderful collaboration of many people making different parts to create the whole. Which is often the way with printmaking.
.
The piece was printed by hand at the Festival in November, again by many hands.
.
We have finally had a chance to print the finished artwork on Rosanna’s beautiful big press at her studio in Bristol to get a lovely solid print, bringing the final pieces of the puzzle together :-)
.
➡️ Take a look in stories to see the fabulous finished results! They look so good!
.
The plan is to auction these off once they are dry along with the originals printed at the fair in an online auction where you can potentially get yourself one of these for a bargain!
.
All proceeeds of the auction will go towards our upcoming fundraiser to raise money to service the presses and restore the equipment in the studio.
.
Watch this space for news of both things coming soon! 👀
