🖤 Give peace a chance. by @nicholasdyee

📙 We’re performing at @litfestyeg this Saturday evening, as part of the “Books and Beats” showcase. Four Canadian authors will read excerpts from their recently published memoirs, poems, and stories. After each reading, we’ll perform a musical piece selected by the author that reflects on their writing.

It’s been a rewarding challenge to help shape this event over the past few years, and to explore the connection between music and literature. We have an interesting selection of pieces this year, and @jtyingmusic and I have prepared some unique arrangements to share with you.

The event starts at 7pm in the Rice Theatre at @citadeltheatreyeg. Jyn-Ting is also performing earlier in the day at the launch of @katlennon’s new poetry collection. Tickets are available on LitFest’s website and the link in my bio. by @nicholasdyee

🍂 Our concert is this Saturday at 5pm! Looking forward to presenting some Indian classical music and trying to keep up with @deepshikhajoshi15 on sitar and @ojasjoshi on tabla.

Through working with these musicians, I’ve gradually learned about improvising, raags, and the importance of being steeped in the music. The more I play with them, the less I realize I know.

The concert is at the Campus Saint-Jean Auditorium. Tickets are available at thetimelessstage.eventbrite.com

🍂 The Timeless Stage: Discovering Indian Classical Music on Sitar, Cello, and Tabla. Saturday, October 3 at the Campus Saint-Jean Auditorium in Edmonton.

We’ll perform original compositions by @deepshikhajoshi15, folk songs, improvisations on a raag chosen to fit this time of day, and a couple of cello experiments.

🍂 So honoured to be presenting this concert alongside the masters @deepshikhajoshi15 and @ojasjoshi. “The Timeless Stage” celebrates the enduring tradition of Indian classical music on sitar, cello, and tabla.

Over the last couple of years, I’ve learned so much from these musicians about improvising, listening, and speaking through the instrument, and I’m barely scratching the surface. If you’re also curious or new to Indian classical, let’s discover together!

🎻 Looking forward to playing cello in a few performances with friends over the coming weeks! I’ll be performing at the annual fundraiser for the @rahfoundation, continuing my journey in Indian classical music with @deepshikhajoshi15, and celebrating the connections between music and stories at @litfestyeg. As always, I’m thankful for opportunities to explore and share music, and contribute to the fabric of the city.

🪻 When I was growing up, my family drove to Winnipeg every July to stay with my grandparents. This summer, I got to make the pilgrimage across the prairies with my own little family.

I’ll always associate Winnipeg with long car rides, humid weather, and Chinese food, and I’m always bittersweet to leave. by @nicholasdyee
