Whirlwind trip to Vienna to see my family on that side - great time, packed a ton in a short time despite the crazy jet lag. Crazy sense of history that just doesn't exist over here. Also did you know a church service in a cathedral can literally be standing room only? I guess that's the difference when it's Mozart being played by members of the Vienna symphony and choir instead of volunteer parishioners who maybe played in high school band.... by @nick92675

Today would have been steve albini's birthday A). this show was huge for me at the time, we had driven down from Madison on 'the rumor' that special huge guest was really shellac. More than that show, killdozer, and by extension steve and the whole touch and go scene opened my eyes to the possibility of being in a band from the Midwest, and to be ok with who you truly are even if you didn't 'look the part'. You didn't have to move to NY or LA. You could do something completely different, even if most people didn't get it or care. It's impossible to overstate his influence on underground music.
B) much more recently I was able to finally get one of the EA DI boxes, after first seeing them and using them over the years on sessions at electrical. I remember the first time recording there and being struck by his handwriting on the 2" reels that were laying around, fully taking up the box width in an almost graffiti like way. I finally put 2 and 2 together that all those record covers were just his handwriting plain and simple. Impossible to copy, just who he was. #thankyoustevealbini for creating a universe that I could see myself participating in, that has allowed me to meet so many great people and have many amazing experiences along the way. He helped create a world of belonging and community for an eclectic ragtag group of creative people that don't follow the rules of traditional 'creative people.' by @nick92675

little woodshed on internal balance trying to focus on how much of the cymbals/toms/snare are coming thru - first half is OH only but pretty distorted which gives a cool crunch/compression but also exaggerates the subtle differences in touch. the rack really explodes out. 2nd half is straight iphone audio. i used to hit REAL hard (i blame dave grohl) especially live - but in the studio the mics hear totally different things and i've gotten quieter and quieter over the years. totally fun challenge to play in different ways. inspired by @drichardbailey by @nick92675

Respect for taking whatever effort big or small to make an improvement in your own life. Life keeps trying to bring us down but we aren't having it are we? Hugs. I see you. by @nick92675

An hour into our hike in Warren Dunes, as juman sucked wind climbing out last hill, I, at nearly 10 years old, was ready for zoomies. #greyhoundsofinstagram #fitspo #whosacouxhpotatonow by @nick92675

Heart had a great run, look at these tracks! Interesting how she runs L front, R front, R back, L back. And her stride is 9 feet from L front to L front. All this on a lazy Saturday for a retired racer. Rachel got footage of her in action which is always so fun to watch - they are happiest when running free. by @nick92675
