Bashville is out and streaming everywhere! After slow-cooking this set for the best part of a decade the Empty Lake Singers are so excited to share these 13 Glam Country songs, written to play at the last Bar Gig at the end of the universe.

Produced with a humbling amount of care by @louismontgomerymusic, with gorgeously camp visual design by @yellowponyau, and some stellar guest playing by @bectaylorlyrebirds and Kevin Bradley. Thanks to the incredible crowd that launched it with us last night. We’ll have more to say and share about it, also DM if you’re keen to pre-order the vinyl release that will come a bit later in the year x by @nickdelatovic

Last year, our friend Anna Trundle from @keepcocbr made a warm introduction to some people with an under-utilised building CBD - City Walk Centre at 131 City Walk.

As the real estate agent showed me through, I imagined studios where there was a concrete floor and beautiful natural light, a workshop space where there was enough space for people to spread out, a gig space in that kind of strange room that could definitely be made cozy, film screenings in the room with the 8m white wall we could project onto, a little room where we can run our artist support sessions, coworking space for artists in the room that’s already fit-out for it, offices for small creative businesses, a street gallery in the little room on the ground floor with the big windows, and hundreds of people playing music and dancing on the rooftop courtyard.

YAH started a partnership with @blank.platform to make all this a reality. We negotiated our way into the building, and launched in March. Since then, we’ve had dozens of artists in the building, creating and sharing their work (tagged in the comments below!)

We know Canberra needs this - space and support to experiment, develop, and grow. We’ve only witnessed a fraction of what’s possible, and we’re determined to build something enduring and sustainable here at 131 City Walk.

If you want to be a part of building it with us, please donate to our EOFY fundraising campaign, link in bio!!

Donations over $2 are tax deductible. Every donation counts, no matter the size. Every donation sends a message that our community supports our work and wants space for art right in the heart of the city.

If you can’t donate this year but want to support us, please share our campaign. It closes at midnight Tuesday 30 June.

Thank you to every legend who has already donated, and to all of you who have been a part of You Are Here. We are beyond grateful to all of you!

Hope to see you at 131 City Walk soon.

Love,
Ket, Nick & Janhavi

A band is only as cute as the people dancing to that band, so we were very blessed with the array of Babes who came to our single launch at @dissentcafeandbar (what an elite place to play and be at!). Thanks to @ginganinja13_au for being able to film and play the bass simultaneously, and thanks to all of you who are already limbering up for our Album Launch on July 19 at the Polo! taken in Dissent Cafe and Bar by @nickdelatovic

Save The Date! After having such a magic time with you all at the Save My Brain single launch, The Empty Lake Singers are so ecstatic to finally share our debut full-length record, Bashville! A show at our absolute favourite time of day for shows- late afternoon!

We’re proud of the record and we know at least a couple of you have been stinging to have permanently summonable versions of these songs. As an unbelievable sweetener, our choptacular friends Massive Sherlock will be there scoping strategies for their own forthcoming album launch! Plus the high-concept synthaholics MAXINE will kick off the show and fill your heart like a stadium. And you can get Polish Club dinner right after. Ticket link coming soon x taken in Polish White Eagle Club by @nickdelatovic

Hi, I'm Nick, Senior Creative Producer at You Are Here, performance artist, and the person on the team most likely to be stashing my pushbike in the office.

My life in arts producing started when I was roped into the staff of the original You Are Here festival in 2011. After working on hundreds of events and programs across almost every artform imaginable, I've worked out which version of the work I like best: face-to-face artist support. Helping people develop artistic ideas, build creative partnerships, understand their own practice, and make long-term plans. I think better in conversation and I enjoy offering that to others.

I’m especially excited about two programs we've launched this year, which are integral to providing what artists have told us they need: community, support, practice development, and help with the less glamorous bits of making art:

Office Hours - weekly coworking, chats, and informal support for artists and producers.
You Are Here Club - tailored one-on-one sessions focused on creative development, planning and practical problem-solving.

At our new HQ, 131 City Walk, we run these programs out of the Studios & Workshop on Level 1. It's a space we're setting up for creative community development to happen alongside artistic practice. In my 16 years at You Are Here, I have worked out of coffee shops, loungerooms, hot desks and offices the size of broom cupboards. Finally having a good-sized space (with heating!) to call our own has made every part of my job easier, particularly connecting with Canberran creatives who didn’t already know about us. Having a dedicated space means we can offer more support, more often, to more artists.

If you'd like to support the work YAH is doing, now is your chance! You can make a tax-deductible donation through the Australian Cultural Platform this EOFY. Your donation will help our team keep 131 City Walk open as a dedicated space for artists to connect, develop work, and access support - a home base befitting our wonderful creative community.

It's easy to donate- you can do it right now while you're doing your post-pilates scroll. Link in bio 🖤 taken in Blank Cultural Platform by @nickdelatovic

New song now streaming everywhere! The Empty Lake Singers are hyperpleased to share Save My Brain, the first single from our first album. It’s a breathless little basher about tech bro immortality science, that has always popped hard in our live set. It’s a strong hint of what to expect from the rest of the record- earnestly camp barroom singalong songs for the hyper-vigilant 2020s!

Adoring shoutouts to producer @louismontgomerymusic for helping us pull the sweaty playful live-in-the-room sound we dreamed of. Come along to Dissent tonight to hear it live, and help us celebrate having made something we’re very happy with xx by @nickdelatovic

The first full-length album from your favorite Glam Country Found Family is ON THE WAY. We’re gonna make a whole thing out of it, starting with the release of the first single. It’s a song about cheating destiny and raging against what’s coming, and recording it has only made it more fun to play!

Come along for the start of Empty Lake Season. Supported by Sideburn, who are Alt-Country but Mainstream-Loveable, and Canberra songwriting legend Alison Proctors’ new project #crushbuzz! taken in Dissent Cafe and Bar by @nickdelatovic
