stopping the recent event announcements with a real diary post! i love being back here and seeing my friends and the most majestic poodle and coco’s hat and the turtle rescue mission in prospect park and an afternoon at riis (expected) but i also truly loved the trip to north carolina (unexpected). every summer is a summer of love by @nickeecoco

Join us at @unnameablebooks for an evening of poetry and fiction, yearning and delight, featuring authors working with @girlsandqueerstothefront: Sophie Ewh, Aleksandra Kamińska, Eileen Myles, Katie Naughton, Monika Zaleska.

GQTTF is a small press based in Poland, publishing bilingual collaborative zines, short fiction, and poetry in dialogue with visual artists. Since 2015, GQTTF has been shaping and archiving how DIY ethos and feminist-queer cooperation defined the last decade of print and activist practices in Poland, while building transnational alliances. The evening brings together New York- and Warsaw-based writers.

We’ll be celebrating the new issue of the GQTTF zine as well! It’ll be sexy, and it will be sad. Don’t miss this 💋

Working with @basiadynda on an article about trans narratives in Polish poetry and DIY publishing felt like an exciting adventure, and I haven’t felt this way about academic writing in a while. I’m so happy to be a part of KONTEKSTY issue on trans studies in Poland.
The article is in Polish only, but maybe something can be done about this in the future :) by @nickeecoco

[ENG below] Widzimy się na @warsaw_independent_bookfair! 5 i 6 września znów wystawiamy się na ukochanej @ada__pulawska. Będziemy mieć ze sobą ziny i publikacje, które już znacie, ale też kilka nowości (by one and only @zofiakurylo). It’s been a while since I’ve heard anyone speak about storytelling with so much joy, hope, and curiosity, the way Jeanette Winterson did during our interview.

She was my discovery that one can be a lesbian writer (what a concept!). I found Winterson’s novel Passion with an autograph in some bookstore in London when I was a teenager and decided it is a sign, still not entirely sure of what, but clearly a sign. I was excited to revisit her works when the new Polish translation of „Why Be Happy If You Could Be Normal?” was published by @wydawnictwoczarne this spring.

We talked about the non-linearity of time and memory, the importance of failure, the triumph of imagination over blood and bones, and, of course, queerness. I joked during that interview that I might replay it before teaching my literature classes, just to believe (and make my students believe) that storytelling has the political world-building potential, and I actually ended up returning to her words several times. What a wonderful person to talk to.
