โš”๏ธUn-Erasableโš”๏ธ Two years ago I was personally invited by @obritztattoos to participate in her and @the_noble_mountain โ€™s convention @voidtattoofest. Despite meeting Olivia at a convention, they arenโ€™t something I usually do. I struggle putting my face out in the tattoo world after losing my shop, after my business partner and employee tried to erase me, and after many people I once called friends helped move the eraser. So I really worried about attending. It was the push from my partners, my friends, and my therapist that keeps me going and getting back out there. First, thank you to @obritztattoos and @the_noble_mountain for inviting me and being so accommodating. They created something weird, fresh, and so different, and I feel lucky to have been asked to be part of it. Thank you to @cheyennesawyer @___crownofthorns @thunderbirdtattooportland for the graciousness of having me at their studio to wrap up a last client. But I really need to thank @lunapigment @sombragrays @nitewolf_777 @el_chimu @killingmyownvibe @magical.sanchez for sticking with me for over the past five years and pushing me not to stay hidden or erased. I donโ€™t just support their pigment, we support each other. When shit goes down, we call each other. When shit gets tough, we show up. They remind me that there are tattooers who arenโ€™t selfish or cliquey, who arenโ€™t just using you as a step to something greater. That there are people out there who care. This event, being with them, meeting so many people, and the deep conversations and connections I made in such a short time with artists like @olivetattoos and @ireneshiori reminded me that Iโ€™m still here. ๐ŸฉธWarning: INTENSE SUBJECT MATTER๐Ÿฉธ Around 21 years ago, I stumbled upon a series of disturbing photographs online depicting a cat being dismembered and hung by a rope in a bathtub, with a piece of paper bearing what seemed to be Chinese characters around its neck. At the time I was working at a restaurant with a guy who could read a little Chinese, hoping he could help translate it. He requested that I crop out the graphic parts, which I did, and then print it for him and his friends to translate. Unfortunately, I canโ€™t recall the translation now, but my goal was to gather any information possible, perhaps even identifying the perpetrator. However, the internet landscape was different then, lacking the social media and awareness-raising outlets we have today. Years later, on another picture/video sharing site, a video emerged showing a young Asian woman cruelly stomping on a kitten with her high heels, becoming one of the most infamous examples of dark lost media on the internet in the early 2000s, introducing the world to CRUSH CONTENT. I have since discovered that these videos and photographs were part of a disturbing trend in China involving cat torture. Individuals film themselves torturing cats and kittens in unimaginable ways, live-streaming it for entertainment. The torture on a single cat can last for days, with no real financial gain for these perpetrators, as the torture is solely for entertainment. Some perpetrators of infamous videos, such as the โ€œCat in a Blender,โ€ have been identified and brought to court. However, nearly no charges were given because there are NO ANIMAL ABUSE LAWS in China. This brings me to FelineGuardians.org @feline_guardians , an organization of volunteers, like myself, who advocate for cats and help identify these perpetrators. They contact their employers, schools, and families, exposing their actions. The work is difficult and the subject matter heinous, but something has to be done. Loved this show as a little kid and it was refreshing to go back and watch some episodes to re-familiarize myself with it when preparing the drawing. ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿ„๐ŸŒฟPerhaps this show and soundtrack is the genesis for โ€œcomfy synthโ€? Regardless if it was or wasnโ€™t I had to use my homie @gnomesynth for the soundtrack highlighting this piece. I recently had the pleasure of seeing @gnomesynth perform at the @outofseasonlabel festival Distant Stronghold. Iโ€™ve been on tour since late August. I tattooed all around the east coast, from New Hampshire, to Florida and out to Michigan. Was back for a few days and then immediately off to play the @outofseasonlabel Dungeon Synth festival. Thank you to everyone who got tattooed. Thank you all the artists that hosted me at their shops, invited me into their home, and were so hospitable. I am so thankful for this chapter of my life, thank you all for being part of the life I Love. Iโ€™m back home and tattooing in my private studio in Newmarket, New Hampshire for a few weeks before Iโ€™m back on the road again.
