It's crazy how time flies. This weekend marks the 10 year anniversary of "Frinky Friday" coming out. Some fun facts about Frinky Friday:

-Originally supposed to be footage for @stagnant_usa 's "CBC video" before the group disbanded, but I fiendishly wanted to put out footy before the video (which ended up becoming MAXED) was anywhere near ready.

-The song is also in GTA5 wnd where I originally heard it. @stagnant_usa and I didn't have a solid idea for a song choice at the time, and I remember suggesting this song cuz I fucking love brass horns, and remember that the song worked really REALLY well without much editorial changes needing to be made.

-While trying the heelflip Manny impossible out, it was the impossible out that was the hardest thing for me, despite how frequent I would do regular manuals to impossible in this time period. I probably did close to 8 or 9 heelflip manual back 180 outs before actually landing what I came for.

-The Ollie over Granada Hubba only took 5 tries. I remember @frylepile came into town, looking to hopefully take a few photos since we had a crew that day, but I think everyone else smoked too much and got complacent. Looking for a reason for both the video and picture cameras to come out, I offered to sacrifice my being and tried a trick I joked about pros doing while attending said high school. I rolled away thinking, "there's no fucking way this thing really ended up being that easy today ..." 😆

-It was a combination of @claydin 's friendly shit talking and my reacting through pure spite that I landed the stalefish at Wallenberg. I made a post on social media saying that Frinky Friday was going to come out soon and not to expect the stalefish at Wallenberg in this part... To which he replied something along the lines of, "or any part, for that matter..." That only made me hit up all the homies who could be available that weekend to go off and charge after it.

Beyonce's "Flawless" Ft. Nicki Minaj is the track I was listening to for both the Wallenberg and Clipper tricks. The song made me feel like a bad bitch at the time, and I don't think the footage disagrees 😂 taken in Livermore, California by @nickfrink

A lot of people have seen and remember mostly my "Frinky Friday" part, as they should because that part I had done the most intentional work on doing certain tricks I've been dreaming about. But this is a forgotten part and not one you can find on YouTube.

This part is maybe over the course of a year or two after graduating high school, circa 2009-2010. This was the time when not only me, but most of the heads at Livermore skatepark were the hungriest to get clips. Me and @mitchellmylius (who filmed and edited this whole thing) were fiending to explore and gather footage. Adventures full of laughter and dorking around, but also the most free I felt in filming because Mitchell, unlike other filmers I skated with, didn't want to get footage as well, nor did he deject my choice of spots (most people weren't into manual pads or 6 flat 6s). He's was done for whatever whenever, and he always had an eye to make my dorky tricks and spots look good.

A sketchy Fakie 270 to Front Board to regular.

Back when I was between 12-14, I could do full cabs pretty consistently. They definitely weren't pretty looking, but I wasn't afraid to do them on flat. I always thought about this trick, but my front board skills were absolute shit at that stage.

Because full cabs were both easy to do on flat AND I was shitty at taking them on anything else, I stopped doing them for years. Nowadays, it's the inverse - I have much more front board control, but the shittiest Full Cabs or anything that goes a few degrees past the turn of a Half Cab.

Welp, after 22 years of being too scared to commit and a frustrating waste of three work breaks trying a single trick, we finally landed.... Something. 😅 Definitely wanted the full rotation and go fakie, but a win's a win. 💪🏿

I grew up in the XV1000 era where tapes cost money and filmers didn't just "film anything and everything". It was also ingrained in me to not ask for a camera to get pulled out unless the truck was "worth it". Because of that, I've done some things in my growing years that maybe wouldn't have impressed 25 year old me, but I wish I would have captured, cuz skating doesn't get easier the older you get.

So, I'm branching out and trying to shake off the mentality of yesteryear and post more frequently even if it's not super cutting edge.

First NEW new trick I've learned in like 8 years, and here's to more, or at the very least, more posts of having fun! by @nickfrink

It's been hard for me to write and post this cuz it feels like this is the final nail on accepting she's gone. Last weekend, I took Cairo to see my family and spread my Mama's ashes in the ocean.

My mom Tahishia was SA'd when she was 14 and that's how I came to be. In a struggling house with my grandma being a single mother, my mom wanted a better life for me and put me up for adoption into a family who could give me the life she wanted for me. We had minor conversations once a year around our birthday, but kind of lost touch when I was 18.

Fast-forward to 2017 when I reached out to her on Facebook and we reconnected. I've said it once and I'll say it a million times: the apple did not fall far from the tree. My mom was fierce and opinionated about helping the less fortunate and marginalized people, but she always gave someone the chance to explain themselves and hear their side of things. She didn't play a LOT of video games, but she was a League Fiend. We connected deeply over Game of Thrones shows and chatted with each other after every new episode dropped. She even had her own magic deck the first time I went to visit then.

50 years was far too soon... Last weekend it was very nice to see family and extended friends of hers all gather. I just wish it was because she had gotten a promotion to celebrate or that she "just felt like getting the band back together" like when we got the beach house back in 2021. But my mom loved to dance, loved to laugh, loved to LIVE, and imma honor her by doing the same. Every big move from here on out is for you, mama.
