Last week I had the first (and worst) case of food poisoning I’ve ever had. After struggling for 3 days with really intense symptoms and being unable to keep food or water down, I started to have really bad chest pain, which landed me in the hospital. When I arrived at the ER my EKG was really concerning and they thought I was suffering a heart attack. After looking inside my heart, it appeared to be myocarditis, inflammation of the heart that was causing damage not a heart attack. They later found it was being caused by Salmonella and Sapovirus from something I ate.
After 6 days in the hospital, I’m feeling incredibly grateful to be alive and grateful for the care I received at Mount Sinai Hospital in the UES. It was a really intense and painful week made beautiful by every nurse and doctor who took care of me, made me laugh, and gave me extra ice cream once I was able to eat. Thank you to everyone in the profession! You are the unsung heroes of society.
Thanks @arthur_marcal for taking care of me and all my friends and family who text, called or visited. I’m home now with the pups, taking it easy, and am on the road to recovery. One step at a time, but I’m so grateful to be stepping.
Careful what you eat out there!

No words. Quite literally the most love filled week I have ever experienced. I am overwhelmed with gratitude and love for this man and our community that is now stretched across this beautiful continent.

Thank you to everyone who reached out and/or traveled thousands of miles to celebrate our relationship. It means the world whether you were there physically or there in spirit.

The world is really fucked up and I feel incredibly fortunate we had this opportunity to celebrate and cultivate queer joy with those who love us.

I love having a birthday at the tail end of winter, right before daylight savings, when we have all had enough of the goddam darkness and cold and bad news and need a little light, and the sun is starting to shine a little brighter, and the tulips are just starting to make their way out of the dirt, and the birds are singing again, and people are starting to go outside again and even laugh and despite everything happening in the world the slight change in season makes me feel a little bit of hope and deep gratitude for my place in the world and the beautiful people in my life.

What a great time of year for a birthday!

Thanks for the love! by @nickjamesbrowne

What a difference a year makes. Those who know me understand that this time last year, I was really struggling. When 2024 began, I wanted to turn over a new leaf, so I promised myself it would be incredible and that I would cherish every moment and opportunity that came my way. After taking some time to hibernate and heal, I’ve put myself out there more than ever since January.

This year alone, I’ve had the privilege of working with over seven amazing casts, directing my second short film, serving as the 1st AD on an international commercial, and I’m currently working on my first Broadway show!

There have been wild ups and downs, but I’m learning to love myself at every stage of the process, even when I’m not as “perfect” as I sometimes expect to be. Creating theater in this city is a privilege, period. I feel so grateful to know each of the artists in my growing community, and I admire how they show up for each other, the work, and challenge the inherited ways of working that no longer serve our greater good.

To everyone out there putting in the work to create your art AND love all of yourselves in this challenging industry—I see you. Keep going.

P.S. This is what I look like now.😊

I moved to NYC just over 10 year’s ago. It’s been a long haul of self producing and making magic with insanely talented people under extraordinary circumstances. Being here today is an overwhelming full circle moment. Come to the Longacre Theatre and prepare to be swept away by the artistry and heart of this beautiful company.

Major thanks to @sdcfoundation for this incredible opportunity.

Midnight Coleslaw, June 2024, Part 1.

“Okie dokie my little freaks and f@ggots. That’s it for this rendition of: MIDNIGHT COLESLAW’S TALES FROM BEYOND THE CLOSET!!!”

I am in awe of this group of humans and the magic we created together. This was one of the most challenging and exciting shows I have ever worked on. But the work was full of ease because of the incredible artists that were in this room and our commitment to approaching the process with curiosity, a sense of play, respect and inviting the JOY imbedded in the script to be a part of our process each day.

We are living in a time of great fear and Joey Merlo’s writing brilliantly shows what can happen when our fears metastasize and take on a life of their own. It illustrates how easily they can control us and turn us into people we don’t recognize. How refreshing to work on a show that investigates this question with love and a beautifully queer sense of humor. It was a honor to work on this play about community, relationship, and the power of connection. It was magical to see my own fears dissipate as I gave into my love of this script, this group, and the brief period of time that we shared together.

Thanks to everyone who came out and partied with us in Midnight’s lair and sent love our way over the past month. I am feeling extremely grateful and excited for what’s next.

A big shout out to @meghanjeanfinn and the @thetanknyc team! @sculliosis @lloydstagramgetit @betcherintherye @kaemeishing @mofitzmo
We need more spaces dedicated to supporting risky work and emerging artists. You never made us feel like we were swinging too big and being at the tank really felt like home. THANK YOU!

@joejoemerlo I adore you, your brain and your heart and can’t wait till we can be in a rehearsal room again!

“At the Tank Theater, the playwright Joey Merlo and the actor David Greenspan, who had a cult hit last year with “On Set With Theda Bara,” reunite for “Midnight Coleslaw’s Tales From Beyond the Closet!!!, whose rough edges are very 1980s East Village. Greenspan appears only in the last of this anthology’s three one-acts, a monologue in which he plays a therapist reminiscing about the freewheeling gay old times he much prefers to the normie present. The bittersweet, yet biting, piece is starkly different from the other two, not to mention the interstitial song-and-dance segments starring the lip-syncing “drag vamp” Midnight Coleslaw (Charlene Incarnate). The middle installment, “Daddy’s Girl” does get my vote for the year’s most twisted psychosexual melodrama. As a boon to programmers, Merlo’s spook ride works for both Pride and Halloween.”
