Pretty dang special to have the World Road Running Championships on home roads!

A number of factors made for a challenging and interesting race, but ultimately I’m happy with how I executed and what it says about the fitness as I look ahead to Frankfurt Marathon in 5 weeks!

No matter how fit you are, when it comes to the marathon, your performance is closely tied to your fueling. Having a clear plan and using products you’ve tested and trust is essential.

Copenhagen Marathon 2026—2:20:02 (23rd)

TL;DR: Objectively a great race. Emotionally? We’re working through some things 😅

Immediate reaction: 3. freaking. seconds—GAAAAAHHH!

Mere seconds. That’s all that separated the outcome from the race I wanted so badly. It’s absurd, really. In most situations, three seconds in the marathon would feel completely insignificant. But somehow, when they leave you on the wrong side of one of these arbitrary “barriers,” they suddenly feels like the difference between success and failure.

Objectively, I know it shouldn’t carry this much weight, and I know it probably sounds ridiculous to most. But when you pour so much time, energy, focus, and sacrifice into chasing something, it’s hard not to feel gutted when you come that close.

I’ve accepted that it’s going to take a bit of time for the emotions to catch up with reality. In the meantime, I’m trying to focus on the bigger picture and appreciate just how far I’ve come since Copenhagen Marathon 2024, when this whole thing was just getting started!

I’m also trying to use this experience as an opportunity to reflect on what my reaction can teach me. Initial takeaways:

1. Goals matter. Don’t just set them—take time to understand “the why” behind them, because that impacts how you appraise success and failure.

2. Maybe this sounds obvious, but it’s important to stay focused and take responsibility for your own race. Know where you need to be and when, because ultimately, no one else can run it for you.

Performance aside, I’m very aware of how fortunate I am to race such an incredible race right on my doorstep. Well done to everyone out there, and thank you, Copenhagen!

And finally, to my family and friends—near and far—my coach, and my club mates: I couldn’t do this without you, and I’m incredibly grateful.

[2025 Running Reflection]

I can’t really shake the feeling that this was the year I became a runner.

I don’t really know what that means exactly. It’s not like there’s an objective measure for it. But it feels like there was a shift—from running being something I did to something more. A passion. Something that brings structure to my life and has found its place as a meaningful constant.

The year had a lot in it. I don’t feel the need to list every race or PB—I do enough of that after races anyway! What I will say is that I’m happy with how the year went and proud of what I accomplished. Sure, it had its hard moments, but in the broader picture I took some big steps forward. I’m heading into 2026 feeling excited, motivated, focused, and knowing there’s more in there.

More than anything, though, I’m just incredibly grateful—and I genuinely mean that. I don’t take it for granted that I get the opportunity to do this. I’m thankful for friends, partners, my coach, and most importantly my family, whose support and belief make it possible to keep showing up and pushing forward!

Onward.

Amsterdam Marathon – 2:25

This was a special one—running through a city I called home for many years, full of good memories and familiar streets.

Grateful for the opportunity, and especially grateful to make it to the start line feeling stronger than I have the last few races. While not everything went perfectly, overall I’m happy with the execution—and obviously always nice to walk away with a PB. Let’s keep the momentum going!
