Demo reels are a funny thing… While I am grateful for all the projects I’ve been a part of, I’m simultaneously thinking, “This is it? I feel I can do more…” Where this is just my commercial work, I feel it only scratches the surface of what I can do. Or perhaps what I wish I could do… Who knows. Acting is a vulnerable thing - I love doing it & rarely love sharing it so without further ado I’m gonna hit post & go to bed. Big thanks to @carolynstalent and all the casting agents & clients who give me the stage to play the fool. You rock. by @nickmirka

92 freakin’ auditions. That’s the official number of projects I’ve submitted to in 2024. Which officially sets the record of most auditions I’ve done in a single year (and we still have a few months left).

It’s been a game changer year for me. Acting is something I’ve loved doing since grade 6 and that love has never dwindled. But something has clicked this year... I feel seasoned now, and dare I say, good at what I do (it’s hard for me to say that). For every 8 submissions I usually book a job that gets me on set & allows me to do the thing I love.

With a busy life of family & work, filming 92 self-tapes in the evenings when I’d prefer to rest is a big sacrifice for the art I love. But when I close my door, set up my self-tape & learn my lines I usually have a good time. I make sure every submission is something I can enjoy & be proud of.

If you’re an actor - keep going. Have fun with every audition. Watch them back and learn how to celebrate what you do well & improve where you can (there’s always room).

Thanks to @carolynstalent for giving me these 92 chances. And thanks to so many of the incredible casting houses that grant me the time & opportunity to be a part of this crazy industry. I truly appreciate everyone you give me the chance to perform. #actor #headshot by @nickmirka

I’ll take any chance to contribute to the commercial break during hockey season but a commercial for @sportsnet & @nhl with Sid the Kid? C’mon! Only thing better would be sharing the screen with @bmarch63 .

I had too much fun for this 3 second clip... Showing my “rage range” from Sid Seixeiro all the way to full Dangle. My veins, high pitched exasperation & beads of sweat would’ve made @stevedangle proud... I hope Sportsnet released the Dangle-cut, but they are likely on a harddrive to die.

Shoutout to @milocasting for putting me on the ice and @carolynstalent for the assist. taken in Rogers Sportsnet by @nickmirka

100+ auditions in the books for 2026…
19 booked gigs.

You lose out far more than you win, and yet you gotta show up. When you’re tired, when you doubt you’re the right fit, when it’s 11pm & you just want to veg out with a show… Still you hit record & do the thing.

It ain’t always easy…

Getting callused to rejection is a superpower that enables you to play a bit bolder & love the process. Because if you want longevity you gotta love it.

Acting is a numbers game. There’s so much you can’t control, but if you persist & be playful eventually you get the call. And then another. And then another.

But you never get to do the damn thing if you don’t put yourself out there again & again & again…

We have all seen yellow, but have you really stopped to appreciate the majestic glory of “warm chartreuse”?

Had a blast playing this Michael Scott meets Buddy the Elf, man-child creative director in the latest Price Choppers commercial. From our playful & visionary director, @dvendramin, @nikpilecki & his merry crew and, of course, to my fellow co-workers, @blueemooney & @321nezar - it was a blast working with y’all.

Big thanks to @milocasting for the gig & @carolynstalent for giving me the stage. by @nickmirka

Every year @united creates a big mystery to solve when they announce their new routes. This year was a zany & wild fake reality TV show, The Cabin: Destination Decoded, that I was privileged to play the boisterous host.

Led by the playful directing of @doolsgold and a fun cast - The day was so fun that I only wish it were a real show.

Alas.. There’s always next year’s route reveal.

Big thanks to @jessegriffithscasting for letting me play. by @nickmirka

I’ve been running a video production company with my best friends for the past 15 years ago. No business background, just the school of hard knocks. Here’s a few tips we picked up nobody teaches you in film school.

1. Keep it fun. It’ll translate in the edit and, honestly, work should be enjoyed.
2. Your video is a tool. What do you want it to do?
3. After you get the shot... allow actors a zero pressure take to try something brave. You get gold or you learn something.
4. Prioritize good audio. And give your sound guy some love.
5. You’d rather be looking at it than looking for it. Extra takes and shots will save you in the editing suite.
6. Unfunny people don’t know funny. Listen to the laughs.
7. Create the joy. Not every project is a hoot, but you can make 1-3 small decisions that turn it into something to be proud of.
8. Let your freak flag fly. You don’t need to chase trends or subscribe to industry norms.
9. Check in with the team. What’s your collective North Star? What lights you up? Stay connected to your goals.
10. Cashflow is oxygen. The more in your savings, the more you can breathe.
11. Don’t hire people to take over the things you love to do. Hire people to do what you can’t.
12. Don’t foo-foo any idea without offering a solution. It’s easy to criticize, harder to create.
13. Every role is important. Treat everyone equally, even if there’s a hierarchy to how things are run.
14. Volley the ball. The sooner it’s in someone else’s hands, the sooner you can rest.
15. There’s always time for a lunch break. Whether to celebrate, connect, or cry.
(Swipe to the end for the fine print.)

15 years ago MRP became a small business.
It started as two dudes passionate about making films.
We met at @torontofilmschool
Mark loved being behind the camera, and I loved being on it.
We both wanted to make things that mattered.

15 years ago, in a season of creative drought, we created some funny commercials for @gilliansplace_sc for their Walk A Mile in HER Shoes event, and it helped bring in over $100k.
That led to…
Businesses asking us to create commercials for them.
Couples asking us to film their weddings.
Realtors asking for home tours.
Kids camps asking us to immortalize Green vs Grey in epic fashion (hello @campwinnebagoe #ForeverGreen)
And NO ONE asking us to create a comedic travelling craft beer show called @talesfromthealetrail, but we put in the blood, sweat & tears to get it off the ground and produce 13 episodes for @fibetv1

For 15 years, we’ve grown as creatives, evolved as storytellers & created hundreds, if not, thousands of videos…. I wish I knew the number.

To celebrate 15 years as a small business, it comes with its fair share of sleepless nights, heartbreaks, burnouts & disappointments. But it also has its fair share of big wins, life lessons, creative highs & moments you feel uniquely aligned with your purpose. This year especially we’ve felt the heartbreak & frustration our clients are carrying. The economy’s been hard on a lot of folks and we are right there with you.

For 15 years we’ve commoditized our gifts & talents as storytellers to make a living for our families (who are our true north star). And the gift to us is working with so many talented filmmakers, actors, entrepreneurs, marketers & clients in the process.

Thank you for 15 years of MRP. We’ve gotten to create some cool projects with even cooler people.

Grateful for 15 years. by @nickmirka
