What happens when a designer turns his grandfather’s migration story into a graduate collection?

For his BA collection at Hochschule Hannover, Samet Akkus explores family history, cultural heritage and his own experience of growing up between two cultures through seven looks, drawing on historical Turkish garments, traditional craft, personal memories and the flowers that have been part of his family’s life. Titled Wir kommen weit her (“we come from far away”), the collection becomes a personal interpretation of a story that began long before him.
