Chicago 🛫 Washington, D.C. 🙌🏾 #Blessed #Grateful • Making the move from Chicago to Washington, D.C., to host and anchor my own morning program, “Sunrise on The Hill,” is an absolute dream come true, and I am honored to step into this new chapter. Joining @dcnewsnow & @thehill means collaborating with an incredibly talented and dynamic team of writers, producers, reporters, and engineers who bring unparalleled passion and professionalism to the newsroom each day. Make no mistake, I did not want to leave the Windy City, but God & life had other plans for me; it has all been bittersweet. • The opportunity to help shape the morning conversation in the nation’s capital alongside such brilliant broadcasting professionals as @tfakileontv @maxjmarcilla @jvorick2 @shennekia and the entire Sunrise Team, is an immense privilege. Walking the streets of beautiful Toronto, feeling ridiculously blessed and grateful.🙏🏾 There are times when my feelings of gratitude are peppered with tinges of guilt. For me, being grateful as a Black man in America and as Veteran of the armed services, involves navigating a complex landscape: One shaped in the pride of having worn the uniform and swearing an oath to this great country🇺🇸 Also one where I recognize the historical challenges rooted in my heritage and how that too, has been instrumental in shaping parts of my Blackness. The ethnic DNA of my full lips, nappy hair and darker hue, aren’t unique to only me - but sometimes it feels like finding happiness - in this place I call HOME, is. 🤎 This pains me and is the foundation of much of my guilt. 🤎 Do you have a right to be happy/joyful/grateful, when so many of your brothers and sisters are in pain? 🫶🏽 Wearing, Speaking, Owning Blackness in 2025 against our shifting political landscape, can be taxing. • I am strengthened by the resilience and determination passed down through generations. 👉🏽I lean on friends, family and prayer to find strength in the face of systemic adversity. @tiffanifaison ain’t you tired of hearing me whine? 🫣 I want to celebrate triumphs - no matter how small - because they’re mine, and each is a BLESSING. I never want my gratitude or joy to be misconstrued as *blinders to all that is happening around me. *GUILT* I am loved. I am grateful. I am healthy. I am blessed. I love my Blackness. I’m a man who misses his Mama; moments like these, are when I’m reminded of her most. She may not have had an answer re: the duality of guilt/joy, but somehow, she always knew what to say.❤️ by @nicksmithnews
BLOOD PRESSURE UPDATE 10•21•26 • I have a testimony. Growing up with a family history of high blood pressure, heart disease, and diabetes, I knew early on that the genetic cards were stacked against me, reflecting a harsh reality that disproportionately affects so many Black families. Instead of accepting this health trajectory as an inevitability, after losing my mother to heart disease in 2024, I made the conscious decision to rewrite my narrative through intentional daily habits, turning to my #JumpRope as my primary weapon for cardiovascular health and stamina. I learned that by pairing this powerful, heart-pumping exercise with a disciplined approach to watching how and what I eat, I have successfully kept these familial comorbidities - for now, at bay. I am working to break the cycle of chronic illness, proving that while genetics may load the gun, my daily choices ultimately pull the trigger. I will continue to pray, drink water, moisturize with coconut oil and MMOBB. 🙌🏾 #Jump #BlackManJumpingRope #bigmenmove #blackmenshealth by @nicksmithnews
