Hiking literally gives you a perspective that you otherwise could not see.

I can see why climbing up the mountains was a kind of spiritual experience for ancient peoples. It's the closest thing you can get to a bird's-eye view of the earth in nature. Everything below seems so small; the trees that once towered over me are now just one small piece of the vast forest. It reorients my own vision of my life: I too am just one very very small piece in this vast vast world.

As Psalm 8:4 says, “what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?”

Hiking teaches me many things--what I've shared is just one thing. Hiking humbles me. I like hiking 😌 by @nicktheleast

The enemy loves when disappointment turns into, "That’s just how it is."

But faith says:
God can restore.
God can heal.
God can save.
God can change lives.

Choose hope over cynicism, every time. 🙏 taken in Church For All Nations by @nicktheleast

I think this picture expresses my view of my experience of Japanese culture: clean, pretty, quiet, admirable, yet suffocating.

I have great admiration for the Japanese people in their dedication to their craft, whatever it may be. They seek to excel in the work they do, producing high-quality works recognized and enjoyed by the world. Their matcha is match(a)less, they serve honorably, and they look out for the common good of their people; however, I carried around in my heart a sadness for them.

For some reason, I could feel that inwardly there was a sadness, a void, a pain, a hurt, an emptiness--I am having trouble explaining it, but there was something deeply agonizing within me that I felt was part of the fabric of reality for these fellow persons. I felt this kind of hollowness that perhaps many of them carried due to being one way in front of others, but for that persona to not be actually genuine.

What's interesting about Japan is what appears to be a paradox: they have a collectivistic commitment to their people and society, and they also value self-expression as seen in their fashion and their encouragement for each to find their "calling" in a sense in the work of their hands. To me, this seemingly paradoxical part of their culture is not a paradox but a reflection of this sense I'm sharing with you right now: They feel they must present themselves a certain way in society but this persona is not genuine; therefore, they find that after work, they can put on new clothes that more closely expresses their true selves.

I can't escape this sense I received while in Japan, and it distresses me that there could be thousands, even millions, in Japan whose lives may reflect this sense.

We send you off with confidence that you will love and obey the Lord much more in this next season of life than in this past season. Keep Christ first, abiding in Him, and letting Him work in you. Then you may work out what He has worked in to fulfill His good purpose. Go and glorify Christ!

“Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.”
‭‭Philippians‬ ‭2‬:‭12‬-‭13‬ ‭NIV‬

Every year in youth ministry, we must send off our graduating seniors, but we often do not anticipate the sending off of our leaders.

These two leaders have been integral in the building up of our youth ministry, and words cannot fully express how much they have meant to me personally. There is sadness in knowing we will not partner together as we have been, yet there is happiness in knowing that God has so many good things in store for them (and us too).

One has been with me since the beginning and has been one of the greatest figures of encouragement and help to me. The other has been with us just this past year, but we have grown fairly close as we've walked through ups and downs not only in ministry but life as well. I will miss them both dearly.

One of my greatest joys in pastoral ministry is the discipleship of leaders. And now, as arrows in the hands of a warrior, I get the privilege to bless them on their way out of our ministry into the next one the Lord has for them.

Whoever receives these two next will be incredibly blessed to have them. May Jesus continue to be glorified in and through them! taken in Church For All Nations by @nicktheleast

In 2 years, the Lord has given me 4 interns to disciple in the way of Christ and His Gospel. It's been an incredible honor to serve these young men and launch them into their God-given callings in Christ.

In a land with very few young ministers, I am so very grateful to the Lord that He has called these young men into the ministry, each with their own unique gift sets that will build up the Church and advance the gospel.

Discipleship in Christ is a path that is narrow yet abundant in life, and as we finish this season, I hope that Christ will be glorified, souls be saved, and the Church strengthened through these men.
