POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

On Saturday I celebrated my 33rd birthday! Which, as we all know, is the year a Hobbit comes of age. And, serendipitously, I feel like I'm of age this year too! Plus who doesn't freaking love Lord of the Rings, so a LOTR-themed birthday was had!

Thank you to all my glorious friends who came out. I'm glowing with joy at how awesome you all are and what a magical birthday this was! by @nickysmitfilms

3 days backpacking in Goat Rocks Wilderness was so good for the soul. The Goat Rock Mountains were stunning, the nature smelled sweet, and I felt spiritually restored! Year 6 of the annual Smit family Backpacking adventure + Owen an honorary member! by @nickysmitfilms

Just wrapped up the final color on a short film “10 Years” that I shot with @mckennaralston & @kimirutledge just over a year ago! This has gotta be the most efficient film set I’ve been on. We shot an 11 page script in less than 11 hours… which is super rare in my experience. @nickysmitfilms was a great Gaffer and 1st AC keeping everything lit and in focus & @maestrogdog did a great job capturing crisp dialogue. McKenna and Kimi are both fantastic in their respective roles and I’m so glad they asked me to shoot their movie!! Very excited to see where this film goes!

Shot on @blackmagicnewsofficial Pyxis 6K & @blazarlens.official Remus 1.5x Anamorphics. Color in DaVinci Resolve with @dehancer.film

HUNGER | Official Trailer | 2025

They hunger - It thirsts.
Set near the Salish Sea in 1840, the story follows 3 trappers that lost all their supplies in a storm. In their search for sustenance, they’ll run afoul of the locals, and something even worse that followed them from the old world.

From Mountaineer West Productions and Ken Carlson (that’s me), this film is set in the Third Testament universe of Brian Dorsey’s graphic novels. The 20 minute short is currently hitting the festival circuit. Stay tuned for news on screenings in your area.

I took my adventurous buddies out to my FAVORITE hiking trail in the NW. Favorite because not only is there a roaring river beneath you, it's rife with abandoned railroad tracks and actual obstacles of fantastical beauty. So much fun. This was an amazing outing and so beautiful in the fall. by @nickysmitfilms
