Some fun news this week. “What It Takes,” a spot we produced for Life Takes Muscle, is a PM360 Trailblazer Award finalist. It’s the first broadcast campaign ever made for the SMA community. Four real people living with SMA. All non-ambulatory. None of them actors. Each one played out their own daily life on camera. Our whole job was building a set where they felt safe enough to be themselves. That meant finding a city all four could get to (New York: great locations, terrible stairs) and locations that worked for a power chair with room to spare for crew and lighting. Proud of our director Garrett Marks and our whole crew for the care they brought to every scene. The little things in life that aren’t little when they take real effort. An award is icing on the cake. The real win was watching four people trust us with their story and enjoy the day. OU Health “Saige” A proud member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, Saige was diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer in her early 20s. For a young, active woman with her whole life ahead of her, being told her survival might be measured in months was devastating. With the care and support of OU Health, Saige fought back and made a full recovery. She is now able to pursue the things she loves. One of those being stickball, an ancient Native American sport where teams use wooden sticks to pass a leather ball and score on a target pole. Telling Saige’s story and getting to learn the history and spirit of stickball was an incredible experience. Grateful to the entire team, the First Americans Museum, and all the players who welcomed us in and shared with us such a powerful and beautiful game. OU Health “Never Done. Never Outdone.” These are the real, everyday heroes. We had the privilege of spending a week @ou.health capturing real doctors, nurses, scientists, technicians, and staff at work. Day in and day out, they fight to improve and save the lives of every person who walks through their doors. It was a truly humbling and eye-opening experience to be part of this project. To visually showcase  the iconic “power of three” in the @adidas stripes, we used a triple-mirrored prism to create layered reflections. We also jump-cut between three matched frame compositions of different individuals performing the same action, reinforcing the visual theme. On top of that, our cinematography approach was to have fast fluid movement mixed with an authentic documentary handheld style — capturing something that feels both elevated and realistic.
