Hello you lovely lot 👋🏼💫

It felt like time for a new introduction, so here goes…

I’m Nicola, a hair & makeup artist who pours her heart (and a touch of perfectionism) into helping people feel their most beautiful.

This year was extra special as I got married too…. Hands down the most love-filled day of my life.

When I’m not working, you’ll find me recharging in the countryside, stopping to say hello to random dogs or hanging out with the people I adore.

I’m a big believer in moving my body for joy whether that’s gym sessions, run club (a recent discovery), yoga flows, or unwinding with a sound bath.

Add in music that makes me feel everything and food that’s got a bit of spice🌶️ and you’ve basically got me in a nutshell.

Philippa & I went on a little journey to find her wedding hair.

At her first trial, we tried a very snatched, sleek bun and half-up hair with glam waves. For the waves, I recommended some discreet clip-in extensions to give her the extra fullness needed to achieve the look she had in mind.

She wanted to see how the extensions would look, so we booked a second trial where we tried the waves and another mid-height bun with the added hair.

In the end, she chose the bun, but with a much softer, more relaxed feel.

Sometimes you fall in love with your wedding hairstyle straight away. Other times, it takes trying a few different looks before you find the one & that’s absolutely OK. 🤍

These two are just adorable 🥹

Olivia & Nate are from New Zealand but have called London home for several years. For their wedding, they wanted something intimate, meaningful and very London….just the two of them, getting ready together @claridgeshotel before heading off to get married.

No big guest list. Just a really special day that felt completely like them.

I feel so honoured to have been part of something so intimate.

For Olivia, we went for soft glam makeup and a simple bun to complement her city-chic look.

This is what I love about elopements. You get to make the day exactly what you want it to be. 🤍

Bridal makeup inspo doesn’t have to be an exact blueprint for your trial.

In fact, it’s much more helpful to save a few different looks you love and think about why you like them.

Maybe it’s the fresh, glowy skin. The soft eyes. The brows. The amount of eyeliner or simply how effortless the makeup feels.

And don’t forget to save the things you don’t like too. Knowing what you definitely don’t want can be just as helpful.

Bring it all to your trial and we can chat through what you like about each look, then create something that feels right for you, your colouring and your features 🤍

A little life update from me & Disco 🐶🤍

Disco has definitely made life more FULL ON, but he’s also forced me to slow down, get outside more, take proper breaks and realise that I don’t need to be productive every minute of the day.

I’ve posted less, worried less about Instagram and generally cared a little less about whether I’m doing “enough”.

My main priority right now is caring for him and of course, continuing to give the best service I can to my lovely clients.

I’m still very much a work in progress when it comes to switching off, but I think I’m getting there. 🤍 taken in Hertford, Hertfordshire by @nicolabeddoes

I honestly cannot recommend an updo enough for you fine-haired queens. 🤍

Once it’s up, you won’t need to worry about it dropping, losing volume or losing its shape. It’ll stay put all day (and night).

Plus, an updo is always such a chic look.

It’s completely normal to change your mind about your hairstyle after your trial.

This is often the first time you’ve actually tried the hairstyle and after sitting with it for a bit longer, it might not feel quite like you. Or maybe you’ve seen something else you prefer.

That’s totally OK, and I certainly won’t be offended if you want to change it!

You can always come back for a second trial if you’d like to see how the new hairstyle will look or we can just go for it on your wedding day, like we did with Jo.

Your trial is there to help you figure out what feels right for you 🤍

I’m so glad I did a bridal makeup trial with Alex.

At her trial, I wasn’t completely happy with how the foundation was sitting on her skin. I adjusted her skincare and tried a different foundation, but something still wasn’t quite right….the finish was looking noticeably flaky.

We realised it was down to the strong retinol Alex had been using.

Thankfully, she had time to stop the retinol and allow her skin to settle before the big day.

On her wedding day the foundation applied like a dream.

This is exactly why I believe bridal trials are so important. They’re not just about choosing your makeup look, they give us the opportunity to understand your skin, make adjustments and ensure everything is working beautifully before the day itself. taken in London, United Kingdom by @nicolabeddoes

Why natural makeup takes more effort than you think…

Natural makeup can take just as long as a full glam look.

I’ll often use a medium-coverage foundation because I want it to last throughout the day and into the evening but I still want it to look like skin. That means lots of buffing and blending to make sure it melts seamlessly into the skin.

If I’m contouring, I want the definition to be subtle. You shouldn’t be able to see the contour, you should just notice that the face looks balanced and defined. And that takes a lot of blending.

In fact, that’s the key to really good natural makeup: light layers, lots of blending and knowing when to stop.

I’ll often step back and look at the whole face before adding anything else, because sometimes the best thing you can do is leave it alone.

It’s about knowing exactly what to do and just as importantly, what not to do.

And that’s the difference between makeup that looks natural and makeup that looks like it’s taken 5 minutes 🤣
