Can we be honest and talk about how much easier it is to love people when they’re loving us the way we want to be loved?

But what about when they don’t?

Romans 12:18 tells us to do all that we can to live in peace with everyone.

And here’s what I’m learning: Obedience is my responsibility. Another person’s response is not.

God has called us to love sincerely, extend mercy, walk in humility, and pursue peace. But He hasn’t called us to control people, tolerate mistreatment, or carry the responsibility of making every relationship work.

We can love faithfully AND have healthy boundaries.

And obedience in relationships isn’t always about navigating conflict. Sometimes it’s simply taking the time to honor and appreciate the people God has placed in our lives.

Here’s a heart check inspired by a question my seven-year-old asked:

What’s your favorite attribute of God? And are you demonstrating that same attribute to others? 👀

His patience? His mercy? His kindness? His faithfulness?

Today, let’s put that love into practice. Tell someone what you appreciate about who they are, not just what they do for you.

Because loving our neighbors isn’t just something we talk about. It’s something we’re called to DO.

One relationship. One interaction. One act of obedience at a time. 💜

🎧 Day 18 | Obedience in Relationships

31 Days of Obedience — The Intentional Woman Podcast by @nicoledhubb

Can I be honest? Sometimes I struggle to experience joy when I’ve done what I believe God asked of me…and things STILL don’t turn out the way I hoped. 😩

Like, Lord, I obeyed. I loved. I served. I did what was right. So why am I still experiencing disappointment, loss, or uncertainty?!

Anybody else? 🙋🏽‍♀️

But here’s what the Lord has been teaching me: Obedience is success in the Kingdom of God.

Not because everything works out the way we want, but because there’s joy in knowing we’re walking with Him.

And y’all, that doesn’t mean we won’t grieve, feel disappointed, or have unanswered questions. I’ve experienced some of my greatest joy in seasons where I was losing things, losing people, and had absolutely no idea what was coming next.

The joy wasn’t in what was happening around me. It was in knowing I belonged to God and was following His leading.

Psalm 40:8 says, “I take joy in doing your will, my God, for your instructions are written on my heart.”

So maybe the question isn’t just, “When will things get better?”

Maybe it’s also, “What have I expected joy to look like that’s caused me to miss it right in front of me?” 💜

We don’t have to pretend everything is good to rejoice in a God who is good.

🎧 Day 17 | The Joy of Obedience

31 Days of Obedience — The Intentional Woman Podcast by @nicoledhubb

What if one of the greatest things standing between you and obedience isn’t your circumstances…but your fear? 👀

Fear of failure. Fear of rejection. Fear of what people will think. Fear that God won’t come through.

Y’all, fear has a way of making us cling to control when God is calling us to surrender. 😩

Jesus never said following Him wouldn’t cost us anything. But sometimes, what we’re most reluctant to give up is the very fear that’s keeping us from following Him freely.

And here’s the beautiful part: God doesn’t ask us to manufacture fearlessness. He invites us to rest in His perfect love.

“Perfect love casts out fear.” — 1 John 4:18

His love is safe. His presence is sure. And we can trust Him with what obedience requires of us.

💭 If fear weren’t holding you back, what would you do?

Anybody else ever talk themselves out of starting because you feel like you should’ve already done MORE? 😩🙋🏽‍♀️

I know I have!

Sometimes we get so caught up in what we haven’t accomplished that we overlook what we can do right now.

But Zechariah 4:10 reminds us not to despise small beginnings. The Lord rejoices to see the work begin!

Y’all, that one phone call, that five-minute prayer, that application, that apology, that first step…it matters.

And here’s what I’m learning: Don’t let “I should have done more” keep you from doing what you can do NOW.

We don’t have to see the entire staircase to take the next step. We just have to trust God enough to begin.

So here’s your challenge: Give that thing you’ve been putting off just 10 minutes today. No pressure to finish it all. Just begin.

Our responsibility is today’s yes. The outcome belongs to God. 💜

🎧 Day 15 | Small Obedience, Big Impact

31 Days of Obedience — The Intentional Woman Podcast by @nicoledhubb

What if your YES to God is bigger than you? 👀

Sometimes we’re so focused on what obedience might cost us that we forget to consider what God desires to accomplish THROUGH us.

Abraham couldn’t see the generations on the other side of his yes. He simply trusted the God who made the promise.

And that’s our reminder today: Radical obedience isn’t about doing something impressive for God. It’s about trusting Him enough to give Him an unrestricted YES.

So, instead of asking only, “Lord, what will this cost me?” let’s also ask, “Lord, what do You desire to do through my obedience?”

One surrendered yes at a time, y’all! 💜

Anybody else ever pray for strength and then get frustrated when life presents an opportunity to actually USE it?! 😩😂

Y’all, one thing the Lord has been teaching me is that sometimes we’re so focused on what we’re waiting for that we overlook what He’s doing in us while we wait.

We ask God for new strength, but we often expect that strength to come with a change in our circumstances.

A door opening.
A prayer being answered.
A difficult season finally ending.

But what if the new strength is showing up in ways we haven’t even recognized?

That patience you’re developing with people who used to get under your skin? New strength.

That faithfulness you’re growing in an area where you’ve struggled to be consistent? New strength.

That joy you’re learning to find in knowing Jesus, even when your circumstances haven’t changed? That’s new strength too! 🙌🏽

This revelation challenged me.

Because Isaiah 40:31 doesn’t just talk about renewed strength. It begins with those who WAIT on the Lord.

And maybe that’s because there’s something about waiting that teaches us to depend on Him in ways we wouldn’t otherwise.

I’m learning that waiting isn’t just about getting to the other side of a season. It’s about coming to know the heart of God more deeply while I’m in it.

And sometimes the greatest evidence of His faithfulness isn’t that my circumstances have changed.

It’s that I’m not the same woman I was when the waiting began. 💜

So here’s my question for us today:

What fruit of the Spirit has God been growing in you during a season of waiting?

Don’t overlook the fruit because you’re still waiting for the answer.

Day 13: Obedience & Waiting | 31 Days of Obedience 🎧 Listen to The Intentional Woman Podcast wherever you get your podcasts. by @nicoledhubb

Women of God, sometimes I think we’re waiting for the fear to leave before we do what God has already told us to do. 😩

But what if courage isn’t about becoming fearless?

What if it’s about trusting God enough to obey while the fear is still present?

One thing that really challenged me while recording Day 12 was reading Joshua 1:9 slowly and realizing that God wasn’t suggesting Joshua be strong and courageous.

He commanded it.😳😮‍💨

That changed how I read that verse.

Because how often do we treat God’s commands like suggestions? Negotiating with Him about the timing, the circumstances, or whether we feel ready.

And listen, I know what it’s like to want to understand everything, feel confident, and have some assurance about how it’s all going to work out before moving.

But God has not commanded us to do anything He hasn’t empowered us to do by His Spirit.

His presence is our assurance, not the absence of fear.

So here’s the question I’m sitting with:

Am I actually waiting on God, or am I negotiating with what He’s already made clear?

Lord, help us to be strong and courageous. Not in our own strength, but in Yours.

And help us to obey You fully, even when we’re shaking in our boots! 😂💜

Day 12: Courage to Obey | 31 Days of Obedience

🎧 The Intentional Woman Podcast by @nicoledhubb

I never knew life without my mom until I had to.

And if I’m honest, these last two years have brought some of the hardest conversations I’ve ever had with God.

Questions about why. Questions about timing. Questions about how I was supposed to keep navigating life without the woman who had been there for all of mine.

Because sometimes it’s not just the loss itself that hurts. It’s all the moments afterward when you realize how much you still need and want that person.

And y’all, I have had to learn that I can love God, trust God, and STILL not understand what He has allowed.

I can grieve and still have faith.

I can have questions and still obey.

I can miss my mom deeply and still believe that God is good.

One of the things I shared in Day 11 is that I’ve learned to carry gratitude and hope alongside my grief.

Gratitude for the mother I had, the love she gave, and the memories my children have with their
Na-na.

And hope. Hope that is anchored in Jesus Christ.

Because the greatest gift my mother ever gave me was Jesus. And when one of my greatest fears became my reality, it was that same faith she passed down to me that helped me keep holding on to Him.

I’m learning that trusting God doesn’t require me to understand everything He does.

Sometimes obedience sounds like a tearful, trembling, “God, I don’t understand, but I trust You.”

And today, that is enough. 💜

Day 11: Obeying Without Understanding | 31 Days of Obedience

🎧 The Intentional Woman Podcast by @nicoledhubb

Are we actually producing fruit, or are we just doing a whole lot of stuff?!

Day 10 challenged me to consider how much of what I’m doing is actually what God has called me to do in this season.

Because the truth is, we can be doing good things, working hard, showing up for everybody, and still be building something God never asked us to carry.

Psalm 127:1 reminds us that unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain.

I’m learning that obedience doesn’t always mean doing more. Sometimes it means saying NO, slowing down, and trusting that God will provide without me having to make everything happen.

So today, I’m asking the Lord for discernment to know what deserves my yes and what requires my no.

Because I don’t just want to be productive. I want to be fruitful. 💜

Day 10: Obedience Over Hustle | 31 Days of Obedience

One of the older saints in the church I grew up in used to yell out while the pastor was preaching:
“You hurtin’ me… but you helping me!” 😂

And honestly, that is Day 9.

Because this truth can hurt when it first lands:
You cannot say yes to God with an already made-up mind about what your yes is supposed to look like.

Sometimes God redirects us and we immediately assume we missed Him, did something wrong, or are being punished. But redirection is not always correction. Sometimes God really did lead you there. And sometimes obedience now means following Him somewhere else.

That is where trust gets tested.

Can I still believe God is good when the plan changes?

Can I still follow when the outcome looks different than what I prayed for?

Can I surrender not only my plan, but my expectation of how God should fulfill it?

Because if I only say yes to God when His will unfolds the way I imagined it, then I may be more committed to my version of the plan than I am to Him.

And that truth?
Yeah… you hurtin’ me, but you helping me. 😭
So I’m learning not to interpret every pivot as punishment. Sometimes it is simply the will of the Lord.

My posture has to remain:
Lord, give me discernment. Show me what obedience requires of me now.

Listen to Day 9: Obedience When God Redirects 💜 by @nicoledhubb

Day 8 is for the moments when you don’t have all the details. When you’re praying, waiting, moving, trying to discern what God is doing—and still cannot fully see the outcome.

What keeps coming back to me is this:
God is sovereign.
God is good.
I need both.

Because sovereignty without goodness would make God powerful, but unsafe.
Goodness without sovereignty would make Him kind, but limited.

But because He is both, I can trust Him.
He is powerful enough to act.
He is good enough to be trusted.
And that changes how I walk through uncertainty.
It means I can obey before I understand everything. I can move before I know exactly where the road leads. I can trust that even what I do not understand is still under the care of a good Father.

So the question I’m sitting with today is:
What does my response to uncertainty reveal about what I really believe about God?
Do I believe He is in control?

Do I believe He is kind in what He allows?

Do I believe His wisdom is better than mine?

That is the invitation for me today: not to have every answer, but to trust the One who does.
God’s goodness is what makes His sovereignty a refuge, not a threat.

This week has been long. And if I’m honest, I’m posting about rest while also realizing how desperately I need it myself. Day 7 reminded me that rest is not laziness. It is obedience to God’s rhythm and reliance on His strength.

I don’t have to carry everything in my own strength. I don’t have to keep proving I can hold it all together. Jesus is still saying, “Come to me.”

So tonight, that’s my obedience.

To come.
To release.
To rest.
