What a night! ✨🎉

Here’s a quick look back at our unforgettable NIDO African Night on May 29 at the Athletic Kulture (Barrie Baycats Stadium).

From Suubi Fusion Troupe’s powerful performance to energetic games and amazing crowd vibes, it was a beautiful celebration of African culture and community.

HUNTSVILLE • MUSKOKA — SUMMER 2026

The Song You Did Not Know You Had.

Huntsville–Muskoka welcomed The Drum Remembers with great enthusiasm this summer.

The elders helped one another.
They listened.
They responded.
They found a rhythm together.

And then, an organic song emerged.

A song they did not know they had.

It had always been there — buried beneath the silence, waiting for a way out.

The drum did not teach them a song.

It gave the song a way to emerge.

With no demand for mastery and no pressure to perform, the drum became a midwife of creativity — helping bring memory, voice, rhythm and connection into the room.

The song was not created from nothing.
It was uncovered.

As we prepare for our first major presentation with Newfoundland and Labrador, we will share how The Drum Remembers continues to transform seniors' spaces and its significant contribution to creative aging.

NIDO'S TDR was also a special feature in the Sageing Journal of creative aging in recognition of June 2026- Seniors Month.

NIDO'S TDR is governed by her 4E'S of Education, Equality, Economy, and Environment.

✨ Support the Release of The Drum Remembers ✨

Since November 7, 2025, Suubi Fusion Troupe has been carrying hope into seniors’ spaces through The Drum Remembers — a creative aging project rooted in rhythm, memory, African storytelling, cultural connection, and dignity.

In these sessions, our seniors — our beloved Roses and Lilies — are not treated as an audience to entertain, but as participants, memory keepers, rhythm makers, and storytellers. Through gentle taps, lighter beats, fuller rhythms, songs, smiles, movement, and reflection, The Drum Remembers reminds us that aging still carries creativity, wisdom, beauty, and belonging.

Through this work, we have also observed three living elements: Silence, Song, and Story. Silence teaches us to listen deeply. Song allows memory and joy to rise. Story carries the wisdom, culture, and lived experiences of the seniors we meet.

What began with the Pot Dance as an icebreaker has grown into a powerful one-hour spring session of The Drum Remembers, continuing Suubi Fusion Troupe’s journey of hope, education, and creative aging. This work now moves forward into our upcoming book project, The Drum Remembers — a collection of songs, silence, stories, reflection, and lived moments from the Roses and Lilies we have encountered since November 7, 2025.

The book will further support Suubi Fusion Troupe’s 4Es: Education, Equality, Environment, and Economy, helping us keep the mission of hope alive through culture, learning, and community impact.

As Nelson Mandela said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”

We continue to keep the Hope — Suubi — in education.

✨ Vendor Announcement ✨

I am excited to share that the first artwork from The Drum Remembers has been selected for exhibition at the Youngplace Craft & Art Fair on May 23, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

📍 Location: 180 Shaw Street, Toronto

This artwork was created from the spirit of our seniors’ drum sessions — a journey of rhythm, memory, participation, and creative aging. Through small taps, lighter beats, fuller rhythms, songs, and shared moments, The Drum Remembers continues to show how art can grow from community connection.

Proceeds from this artwork will support Suubi Fusion Troupe initiatives, helping continue cultural education, performance, storytelling, and creative programs that carry hope forward.
