This was exciting news! by @nielsenwriter

We had an inspiring day with some incredible authors!

Our K–2 students were delighted to welcome Karla Arenas Valenti, author of Maria Mariposa. She shared her story, the experiences that shaped her writing, and what inspired her to become an author.

Our 3–6 grade students welcomed Jennifer Nielsen, who shared her newest book, Elliot and the Goblin War. Students had the opportunity to hear about her life, her journey as a writer, and the inspiration behind her stories.

Both authors reminded our students that great stories often begin with the things that inspire us. They encouraged our young readers and writers to look closely at their own lives, find what sparks their curiosity, and turn those inspirations into stories of their own.

A huge thank-you to Karla and Jennifer for sharing their time, stories, and passion for writing with our students! We hope their visits inspire a new generation of readers and authors.

Amazing stop tonight on the Utah Book Festival at Summit County Library with @nielsenwriter. Even my 11-year-old enthusiastically said “That was way more fun than I thought it would be!” (Probably because she got to talk to THE Jen Nielsen about her dream of becoming an author and illustrator 💛) If you love books and stories, check out @utahhumanities to see what events are happening near you. @johnstunkase @vienglishman 📚 by @nielsenwriter

WAR BOATS is my next novel to release! It's the story of Dunkirk, the Merchant Marine, and the Altmark Incident, which I guarantee you're going to love learning more about!

If you want to preorder now (which I'd super appreciate), then Barnes & Noble is offering their members 25% off all preorders today until Friday (9/11). That's a great deal and would make my editor bonus happy! @scholastic #Dunkirk by @nielsenwriter

We've had incredible work from our firefighters, and then after a rainy day, this was the reward. This is the same view where I photographed the fires earlier in the week. by @nielsenwriter

This fire is closer than I'd like, but we have incredibly brave firemen here who are moving it away from town, where I live. I'm so grateful for the work they are doing. (This video is from yesterday.) by @nielsenwriter

Thank you @nielsenwriter for congratulating and encouraging the amazing young writers of ESWC 2026! We will ALWAYS tell that story and never let it go unheard.
