7 years ago almost to the minute I had my first meeting with the Flint common just as the first rain storm kicked in after a long hot dry spell. What a right pain in the arse it was on the bank, but @tom_stokes_ finally managed to bag a decent shot in testing conditions whist it was dark. We met a couple more times after this capture, but that’s quite normal for a greedy ole carp like this one. Don’t know if it’s still about or if it’s still got a mouth on it after making so many anglers happy over the years. A proper old Trojan of a carp. by @nigel_sharp1968
Legendary captures - A true Yateley classic 🇬🇧 Nigel Sharp with the iconic Single Scale from Yateley Car Park Lake. More than just a carp, Single Scale was one of the lake’s most recognisable originals and a fish that countless anglers dreamed of catching. Captured during the golden era of British carp fishing, this is a photo that perfectly captures the heritage, challenge and magic of Yateley. #nigelsharpcarpangler #yateleycarp #legendarycaptures #theoldschoolessence #luckyjumper by @nigel_sharp1968
THE QUEST CONTINUES 🎣 Nigel Sharp’s hunt for a PB common is back on, with a vengeance! We caught up with him, mid-session, down at the gnarly home of his current target; the huge and elusive Pristine Common. Not only has Nige got a lot to talk us through, but he catches live for the cameras too! Compulsive viewing for admirers of the dedicated big-carp scene. 🍿 The Quest Continues | Nigel Sharp | The Sharp End | S1: Ep.8 🎥 Only on Cypography #cypography #carpfishing by @nigel_sharp1968
Sharp by name, sharp by nature. by @nigel_sharp1968
20 years ago today and just over 5 years to the date I started on Burghfield the ultimate challenge came to an end when The Common finally went into my net. During those years and since the lake has seen plenty of very good anglers come and go. Some of which with their tails wedged firmly between their legs and very few that have succeeded. It’s certainly not a place for the faint hearted or those who want a quick fix big’un. During my time I roughed it out while friends on other waters were racking up big fish, but I knew what I wanted and kept going until I achieved it. This capture of the rare beast was some 4 years 7 months after its previous capture at 45lbs 12os by Malcom’s Tab and at 52lbs 12ozs she was 7lbs bigger making her my first 50 pounder and a PB to this day. Yep I’ve fished a couple of places with bigger fish since, but the buzz of that chase hasn’t ever been the same for a number of reasons and that’s not for the lack of fire in my belly to succeed in targeting a certain fish as that’s always there regardless of what’s going on around me. Like my Yateley days, I made some great friends during my time on Burghfield whom are still good friends to this day I’m pleased to say. From what I can gather The common has remained elusive for roughly the same period of time as before my capture, so who’s going to get lucky next eh. That is what makes the fish and lake so special. Definitely the best lake I’ve fished during my 45 years as a carp angler and I’ve fished some special places. 25 years ago today the ultimate challenge began when I walked into Alsatian Bay on the mighty Burghfield to see what the warm north easterly wind had blown in. As I walked into Swampy corner it was very apparent that pretty much the entire stock of the lake was in there cruising around on the surface amongst the May dust (willow fluff) which had built up. That was enough for me and I ran back to the car to grab my floater gear and as soon as i started firing a few mixer out they started confidently talking them. If memory serves me well this 21lb 12oz common became the first fish of that journey after just 12 minutes of trying. As that day wore on the common drifted in and laid up under the tree to my right and I spent hours dangling two Freelined mixers within inches of it massive white mouth gulping at the scum while I hung out the tree above it with the rod in my hand hoping it would just slurp them in. Well that plan didn’t work, but the next day she came back and hoovered up every mixer in her path until I balls’d up a cast and landed the controller right on her head which was the end of that for the weekend. What a buzz that weekend was and I actually thought to myself that this shouldn’t take to long and found myself nipping over every evening after work for a few hours fishing. Although the common wasn’t amongst the few fish I caught from the same swim that weekend I had the buzz I needed after walking the lake throughout the winter and spring. I also met another Burghfield angler that weekend, @dr.chris.gardner who became a good friend and still is to this day. #burghfield #burghfieldcommon by @nigel_sharp1968
30 years ago today, 2 days after borrowing @richie_howson_art’s barrow to move from the Main Works bank swim round to The Islands I received a slow steady bite from my left rod fished under the willow where I’d seen Bazil patrolling for a few days before. Sadly a few of the lads and the great fish are no longer with us to this day, but at least I am and I’m still doing what I love. Bazil was a long term PB mirror for me and although I’ve caught bigger since he’ll always be the best for many reasons BAZIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIL #yateleycarp #yateleynorthlake by @nigel_sharp1968
